Reply:Where I'm from (Leeds in England) we have the Yorkshire white rose as our city flower. And the bird that represents England is the swan, i once read something that said if you were caught intentionally hurting a swan by a police officer you could be arrested for damaging the queens property....I'm not sure how true it is.
Reply:In North Carolina, our state flower is the Dogwood, which is actually a tree...and I have them all over my yard! And the bird is the cardinal, which are always hopping/flying around in the spring, even though it's not super cold here in the winter usually, the cardinals always signal spring, which is nice!

Here's a description of the flag and a link to it below:

On a blue field, appears the state seal. In the center of the seal is a beehive, the state emblem, with a sego lily growing on either side. The sego lily stands for peace. The state motto "Industry" means steady effort. A national flag shows that Utah supports the United States. The eagle stands for protection in peace and war. The date 1847 represents the year that Brigham Young led a group of people to the Salt Lake Valley to reestablish in Utah, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, also know as The Mormons. The date 1896 represents the year that Utah gained admission to the Union of the United States.

I asked a neighborhood teen-ager to water my container and border plants while I am away for a week. The job takes about 20 minutes a day, and with the hot, dry weather, I suspect she will have to water them daily.

Any suggestions on the going rate? She was to shy to state what she thought was fair.

Watering flowers while away: what to pay a teen-ager?
Very good question and one that is hard to answer. I have been in the same situation. It depends on what you are able to offer and the value you place on keeping those plants alive.

I would offer at least enough for the teen to buy a CD or DVD for their time which is around $20, but then that is me. I look at it as exchanging something they would like to buy instead of an exact amount of money.

Fan flowers or scaevola annual or perennial in NC?

Hi, I just got a bunch of fan flowers/scaevola . The NC State website says they are annual but I've had luck getting some annuals to come back if we have a mild winter. These are perennials in Florida. Looking for someone with experience in NC area - do these come back after first year? Is it worth planting these at this point? or is there no hope of them coming back next year?

These lovely blue flowers are hardy in Zones 10-11. If you're cooler than that, enjoy them as long as you can, but they won't come back.

Is energy added or removed from an object when it is frozen in liquid nitrogen and why?

lets say i froze a flower was energy added or removed? did any changes of state occur? if yes, what were they?

Is energy added or removed from an object when it is frozen in liquid nitrogen and why?
The energy flows from the warmer to the cooler objects. The item you place in the liquid N2 is warmer than the N2. The energy flows from the item to the N2 and the item itself gets colder (frozen) while the N2 gets warmer (boils).
Reply:Hi. Energy is removed from the object and transferred to the colder material. A phase change such as freezing or liquefaction may occur.
Reply:removed because the molecules begin to move slower
Reply:You have a thermal transfer of heat from the flower's molecules to the liquid nitrogen (which sublimes). Since heat flows out of the system (the flower), there is a loss of energy (recall ΔE = q + w ).

There is a phase transition of the liquid water in the rose to solid water. There are also likely phase transitions of other molecules from liquid to solid, and of course the nitrogen will sublime which is a phase transition (or change of state).
Reply:energy is not added or removed it just slows down. The flower remains a solid, but the liquid inside the flower freezes and becomes a solid rather than a liquid that is the only change of state.

    Blue Bonnet Bouquet?

I would deffinently love to have a bouquet of blue bonnets. As most Texas citizens, I'm a proud Texan. I love this state. Our state flower is the Blue Bonnet. It's illegal to pick them, but would it be possible to get a bouqet of them for a wedding. And will it even look good?

    Blue Bonnet Bouquet?
you may find it easier and less expensive to go with a good quality silk blue bonnet bouquet. that way there are no laws being broken, if the florist can get them no doubt they will be expensive.

and if you buy good silk flowers people will honestly will have a difficult time telling the difference between them and fresh flowers! mix them with other flowers and they will look beautiful. on the computer check out

    Afloral.com

on their home page is a photo of blue bonnet silks and they are on sale - up to 11 are 79 cents apiece while 12 or more are 59 cents apiece. check out a few others flowers on their site, like forget-me-nots, and blue allum, cherry or apple blossoms, blue hyacinth, all kinds of beautiful silks. check them out to get an idea of prices, then go check out shops like michael's crafts and joanne's. good luck and happy wedding sweetie!
Reply:Hm, unlike others, I'm a Texan and I'm counting down when I have the education I need to move out of here.

Anyway, back to the question, bluebonnets are lovely! Why don't you grow them? I've seen seed packets for them at Home Depot and stuff. If you have the time to grow them before the wedding, then you might have a chance.

Otherwise, call up florists in your area, I bet there are some poeple out there.
Reply:Im a Texan too..SO I KNOW we have pride. I think Itd look beautiful. Id talk to a florist, because Im sure theres a way around that. I think the whole "illegal" thing is if its on public property, ie. on your property, or on private property its your choice . My SO is a Sherriff's Deputy, Ill ask him tonight. GOOD LUCK!
Reply:Call around to some of the florists in your area and ask if this is possible. I think it would be lovely!!

If they can, then you can visit the shop and go over ideas of what you want and what it would look like.

All the best and have a lovely wedding.
Reply:i am sure a florist can do that for you
Reply:It doesn't look like it will be easy getting the real thing.. but you can buy silk blue bonnets and have your florist incorporate them into a fresh flower bouquet. Unless you get really close you won't be able to tell the difference: http://www.arneswarehouse.com/flowers.ht...

    best wishes................
Reply:Yay TEXAS! San Antonian here! I'm sure you could...just ask a florist.
Reply:Yes, you can buy them from a florist. However, they are seasonal, so you might have to deal with that issue. And since they are so small, it would take tons if you wanted the entire bouquet to be of bluebonnets. They would all have to be wired because they stems are very "floopy" and wouldn't be as sturdy as long stemmed flowers.

However, it's worth checking into. Maybe you could suggest the florist add some silk bluebonnets into a bouquet of real roses, or whatever flower you might consider besides bluebonnets. I'm sure someone has some awesome ideas that would work.
Reply:You can give silk versions to your florist for her to mix in with the real flowers of the bouquet. As a professional she will know how to integrate them so it looks fab! I've seen it once or twice and it was pretty.

    Texas girl myself. :)
Reply:Maybe this website will be able to help you out. It's a beautiful flower! If not, then ask a florist...they may be able to purchase them, or they could recommend a flower that would be very similar. Good luck!

    http://www.bluefieldsoftexas.com/misc/or...
Reply:Yeah ask a florist they are the best people to ask because yeah you dont want to be picking some bonnets and a cop come put you in jail for it haha seen it happen! But yeah ask and see im sure they will. A lot of wild flowers are now being grown in gardens for florist so im sure they have some somewhere lol its Texas of coarse!! Good Luck! GO TEXAS!!
Reply:if that what makes you happy go for it its sounds beautiful.

    What flowers bloom in August?

We are planning our wedding in our huge gazebo in the backyard and we want to plant something now that will bloom in August so that we will have "natural" wedding decorations. Any suggestions? BTW we live in New Mexico, and it is a dry desert kind of climate, so something that is good for Washington state for example won't work here...

    What flowers bloom in August?
Zinnias;Asters;Cosmos;Rudbeckia (gloriosa daisies)--some of the best ones are "Indian summer" "Becky" "Cheroke sunset" "Toto" "Soraya" ; Celosia; Sunflowers (there's a great white sunflower called " Moonshadow"); Statice; late blooming lilies like the orientals; Brugmansia (Angels trumpet); Amaranthus (love-lies-bleeding); morning glory vines, sweet pea vines. All these flowers bloom in august and can withstand heat well. If you have any more questions, email me, we grow flowers for spring and summer weddings.
Reply:I think that sweat peas are cool season annuals, at least in my area. Report It
Reply:humming bird plants do. mine goes wild. large and thick. but that could also depend on were you live...what seasons are active at that time. I live in new york state. and in august the thing gets fully bloomed and out of control. we have to cut it back. but its very pretty.
    Reply:Tulips?
Reply:you should grow hemp they bloom flowers in august. plus yud have ah blazing wedding.
Reply:In my area, hibiscus and butterfly bushes would be blooming then. There are also some types of roses that bloom almost all year. Why not call your county extension office and ask them? Because your climate is different than mine, what does well for me may not for you.

  • Can a cannabis clone skip the vegetative state and autoflower?

I got a couple a clones in organic medium which were 3-4 weeks old when I recieved them. Its almost been a month now and the buds are beginnging to blossom within the plants. It seems to me however that it just skipped the whole vegetative state because I thought it was supposed to grow first into a large plant and then begin to bud when its almost over. I heard low-rider is auto flowering strain but i'm pretty sure that my Purple plant is not auto-flowering.. anyhows is this normal or what.

Can a cannabis clone skip the vegetative state and autoflower?
i dont grow it, i just smoke it! ; )
Reply:Typically you want a strong period of vegetative growth to create a strong plant, to enable the plant to grow large more potent flowers. If you want the plant to remain in a vegetative growth stage, keep the plant exposed to 16-20 hours of light each day (long days). When you want to initiate flowering, expose the plant to 12 hours light/12 hours darkness (long nights).
Reply:That's the benefit of growing indoors, you control everything.

If you want it to flower change the photoperiod. You see the mother plant has done the vegging already, what you have are clones, they are the same as the mother and have in effect done the vegging bit.

I suggest getting them on a 12-12 into flower.

Which out of these themes should i do?

I take my horse to the fair every year, and we decorate the outside of our stalls with a theme. We put up curtains, and a sign with our horses name on it. Which theme do you think would be best? If you have any other ideas besides these, please post them.

btw, my 'color' with Teva is teal(turquoise)

1.'Nature' theme- brown, green, (earth tones) curtains, staple up fake leaves, vines, flowers. Carved wood for the sign

    3. Heart theme- heart curtains, and painted wooden hearts all over, hearts on the sign.

    5. Wild animal- Cheetah %26amp; zebra print curtains, an extra sign that says: 'take a ride on the wild side', staple up fake vines and exotic plants to make it look like a jungle.

Also feel free to add thing on what I should add on. Please, no "comments" on how old you think I am. I don't like it when people think that I am younger than I am.

Need ideas for my mom as well as mother-in-law. They both live in different states than we do, and we have done the whole send flower, candy and the edible arrangements. Anyone have some other ideas as to what we can send them?

Can you help me come up with a "different" Mothers Day idea?
Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

This is a really beautiful poem too!

Women have strengths that amaze us.

They carry children, they carry hardships, they carry burdens but they hold happiness, love and joy.

They smile when they want to scream.

They sing when they want to cry.

They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.

They fight for what they believe in.

    They stand up for injustice.

They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.

They go without new shoes so their children can have them.

They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.

    They love unconditionally.

They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.

They are happy when they hear about a birth or a new marriage. Their hearts break when a friend dies.

They have sorrow at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.

They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.

Women come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes.

They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.

The heart of a woman is what makes the world spin!

Women do more than just give birth.

    They bring joy and hope.

    They give compassion and ideals.

They give moral support to their family and friends.

Women have a lot to say and a lot to give.

Help where do I put the poop or how do I start over?

I have just moved into a big new home with my large dog and a very small yard, We use to live (another state) with over two acres and didn't realize this problem until we got here. The smell is horrendous(?) and the poop is mounting! If I would have realized I would have started picking it up a month ago, But now it has gotten out of hand! there is NO place in the yard to walk! Can I spray something? Pour anything? HELP? I have had Daniel (dog Lab) 13 yr's He is 90 + pd's, I can't enjoy my yard since I have moved in no place to plant flowers, no place to enjoy my coffee, Stink, Stink, Stink!!

Help where do I put the poop or how do I start over?
I am not sure about where you live, but in my town, there is a pooper scooper company. They come twice a week and clean your yard for you. It can be mildy expensive, depending on what size of dog and how many you have and size of the yard, but they do a great job and have a yard deodorizer that is safe for kids and animals. Highly recommend this!!!
Reply:You can hire a Pooper Scooper. Yes they do exist, and they'll come to your yard and clean it all up. I'm not sure what they charge, as the differ from area to area. Try doing a search online for them and their prices. They are relatively a new thing around here, and the idea sounded silly to me at first, but there are some other people who really need the help, just like you. Good Luck!

Please tell me this is a joke.......
Reply:You have to pick it up. I can't figure why you would have thought otherwise. I have 5 dogs and a beautiful yard filled with shrubs and flowers all over and I mean all over. The immediate yard is about one acre but the dogs don't have access to only about 1/4 of that. We pick up all dog crap every single day. I put a plastic grocery bag over my hand and pick up every bit.
    Reply:Whew - you have got a problem!

You can get a pooper scooper company to come out - which may be quite expensive. Or you can go to Petsmart %26amp; buy a set of pooper scoopers %26amp; get to work!

Not sure why you thought that your big doggy's poop was just gonna disappear! LOL

I have seven Collies %26amp; there is no way on earth that I would go more than a day or two without scooping up the yard. I usually do it every day - unless I am too busy. Then I go out the next day %26amp; believe me - seven dogs make a LOT of poop!

You must scoop up as much as you can find - put it in a big cardboard box to hold all the weight. Put the box inside of a lawn %26amp; leaf bag %26amp; put it out with the trash.

Now - keep scooping every day %26amp; you wont have this problem again. You can buy a doggie dooley - which is a septic system that you can put his waste in daily to be digested by enzymes - that will save you from baggin it with your usual waste.

Don't let the poop pile up again!

Gift Basket/Flower Drop shipping? Help needed!?

    Hello

I am looking for a drop shipping company to provide gift baskets, chocolates and flowers in america.

Can anyone recommend a dropshipper that does gift baskets, flowers to cater for the american market?

    * one that is reputable

    * offers a website package as I don't know how i will be sending all the orders through manually to the wholesaler on a daily basis keeping up with this would be crazy..

for example some drop shippers state "Once you sell one of our items, you will return to this website and place your order" this is what i would like to avoid (any suggestions on how to over come this would be appreciate)

    * with no excessive fees

what drop shipping company would you recommend?

Gift Basket/Flower Drop shipping? Help needed!?
    Hey,

I have had experience with Dropshipdesign.com. My business was not related to gift baskets, chocolates and flowers, so I don't know if they do that kindof distribution. But I can attest that they were very helpful and efficient with all my business transactions. You can check out testimonials and a business comparison in the source section. Good luck!

  • Need help with flower color?

I am trying to pick out my Bridal bouquet and Groom Boutonniere it comes with the package i got for my wedding. I can choose the following.

    Red roses or

    white roses or

a mix of the two for me or

    a red rose

or a white rose for him

My dress will be black with blue trim. His outfit will be a blue shirt and black pants. Our ceremony will be held at the Renaissance fair in our state.and brides did not wear white wedding dresses.

i was thinking the white flowers for both but i wanted a second option.

    thanks in advance

i agree. white would stand out more and also just look better on you and your groom.

    congrats by the way. :)

Reply:I think white would be best. Definitely don't mix the two, or it will come out looking like the 4th of July I'm afraid.
    Reply:white roses...
Reply:I would go with Red. White rose petals show wear and tear very easily, and develop brown lines if bent or folded. One hug to the groom could make his boutonniere look crumpled! A red rose would hide this much better. Another option would be to choose red/gold roses as those will pop much better against a black (or blue) background than red alone.

    How do you ship plants?

I'm considering selling rare herbs/veggies/flowers locally next year. However, I might also attempt an internet type business.

My question is, does anyone know how you would pack plants in order to keep them alive during shipping. I'm aware that things should be shipped when they are dormant (early Spring, late fall). Also, what are the laws regarding shipping plants to different states?

    Any info would help. Thanks.

    How do you ship plants?
Bare root is best. I wrap the roots in moist paper towels and then wrap in Saran and secure it loosely with a twist tie. I then immobilize them in a paper towel tube or tape the root bundle to the box. For plants in pots, I tape bubble wrap over the soil and immobilize the pot by taping it to the box. Always assume the shipping company or PO is going to use your package as a soccer ball and kick it all the way to it's destination. If shipping in the summer or winter watch the weather between you and the destination for extreme temps. RScott
Reply:In regards to the laws, you need to contact your local agricultural department. You may need to secure a shipping license and some states require an inspection certificate if you are shipping in to that state. It really depends on what state you are shipping from and where it is going.

For example: Some states require a certificate for brown garden snail, some for fire ants, etc. Also, you need to be on top of what is considered a "noxious weed" as these are banned from shipping in to some states. Each state maintains it's own list and you must be aware of what is on that list.

For the most part, you need to do a lot of leg work and be somewhat responsible for what you are shipping and where it is going. Your local ag. department will be helpful but you will need to do some research too.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.
Reply:Before packing, water the plant until the water running out the drain hole. Wrap the pot with plastic bag, tape the bag around the pot and tape looselly around the plant so the soil will not spill. Wrap the plant leaves with newspaper. Put in the box, do not bend the plant! Fill all of the space with crumpled newspaper or brown paper until the plant is not moving when you shake the box. Remember it will have to be able to handle the abuse during transit.

Use the fastest mail service possible. The Priority service have long and triangle boxes you can use for taller plant, and it's free!

You can not send any kind of Citrus tree to Florida!

    GOOD LUCK!!
Reply:I use the damp paper towel method on bareroot stock. Potted plants can be watered the day before (to prevent dripping while shipping) and the soil covered and secured with plastic wrap and tape. Don't try sending any "agricultural" items into California or Florida. Shipping out of country is also regulated and includes seeds. Check websites (and even mail order companies catalogs) for areas plants cannot be sent to.
Reply:Read section 5 of the article below on mailing guidelines. You'll have to mark your package "perishable". I've ordered plants from e-bay in the past and have received them bare root, wrapped in wet newspaper and secured with rubber bands. The plants did very well and are now thriving.
    Reply:From Mark T at Yahoo!

"Wrap the roots in moist paper towels, and the top of the plant in dry paper towels. Put into a plastic bag. Roll the bag up so the plants cannot "flop around" and get damaged. Send them by Priority mail. I have done this numerous times, with good results."

  • What is the etiquette for donating to a charity at request of deceased's family?

My husband and I are recently married and it is the holiday season. We are very short on money.

Today I just found out that a girl I used to babysit died of a drug overdose or of something drug-related. I used to be best friends with her sister and as the family lived down the street, we were always at each others' houses. I live in another state now and can't go there, plus the funeral is family only/private.

In the obituary, they ask for donations for a drug treatment facility. I think it would be more suitable to give to this facility in the deceased's name than it would be to send flowers to the family. What is the etiquette for doing this? Do I donate and also send a card to the family? I don't care if they know that I donated or not, but I want them to know that I am thinking of them. I am not sure if the facility will give a list of donors to the family. What is appropriate in this situation? My last name has also changed; how do I sign?

    Thanks,

    Tara

What is the etiquette for donating to a charity at request of deceased's family?
Tara, you are precious to take such care in doing this in your friend's memory. You can donate directly, you can ask if they send a card to the family and because they've been so close, you can send a card of encouragement/sympathy with some of your fond memories to help them remember beyond the pain that this young woman had friends, etc. In that you can mention that it was on your heart to help prevent this from happening to another family and so you sent a donation in her name to:

Keep shining kiddo, you sound like you really have it all, heart, smarts and empathy.
Reply:Most charities I've donated to at the request of the family automatically notify the family of my donation. I know they do because I then receive a thank you card from the family. I simply send a check to the charity with a note "in memory of" or "in celebration of the life of" and then I name the person. If your maiden name is Jones and your married name is Smith, I would sign the card Tara Jones Smith.
Reply:You can send a card, without mentioning the donation. When my father-in-law died, we requested donations to the hospice organization. The organization sent us a list of donors as they received them. They also sent very nice thank you letters to the people that donated. Just include all the information that you want in the letter to the facility when you send the donation. I would sign your name as first name-old last name - new last name.

    Sorry about your loss,
Reply:You can make a donation to the facility and let them know it is in honor of your firend. Then you can send a sympathy card to the family of your friend to let them know whatever you'd like (such as "i'm so sorry for your loss" "I heard what happened and made a donation to the facility you indicated in the obituary" or whatever you'd like. You can also make a phone call to the family to let them know your feelings.

As to how to sign. I would suggest signing whatever you send the family in the name they knew you as. If you sign it as your married name, be sure to indicate somewhere who you are so they will make the connection.
Reply:When my son died, we didn't make any request of any kind, but a very good friend said she had made a donation to a certain place in his name. I'm glad she told me, because I never received any notice from the place. If she hadn't told me, I never would have known to thank her.

The mother of a friend of my son's wrote me the nicest letter telling about her memories of my son when he visited their home.

So I would send a sympathy card for sure and tell them you made the donation in her name, and even write a note telling something about your memories of the girl. This is so meaningful to the family. And sign your name Tara (Jones) Smith. Also be sure to put your return address on the envelope.

So sad when this happens to young people, and so hard for the families.
Reply:I won't donate. I will donate to the charity of MY choice.
Reply:You write to the centre making a bequest in the name of the deceased, asking for the acknowledgement to be sent to her family. You can sign it in your married name - Mrs Jane Jones (nee Smith), or just as Jane Smith.
Reply:my friend died of an overdose and her family asked for donations in her name, too. call the facility and make the donation, using your married name. send a card and sign your name, and just put your maiden name in parenthesis
Reply:Honestly, it's best not to tell them. Just to give a little money. And call the family. In about two weeks, perhapse. When everyone else has called. Just to say you're sorry and what you remember of the lass.

But really, talking about the money... it's not in the best taste.
Reply:I would make the donation that I could afford to the charity of their request, in lieu of flowers. Then I would send the family a sympathy card and say that I made a donation in loving memory of their daughter to that charity.
Reply:Send a donation in memory of the deceased in your name with your maiden name in brackets i.e Mrs Amy Johnson (nee Andrews)

You can certainly also send a card to the family...

A lot of places have a special donation card that they will give to the family of the deceased.

I think a lot of families do this now as the donation is a useful gift and they may not want all kinds of flowers to deal with...

I am sorry for your loss.

What to send to parents for Thanksgiving?

My parents live in another state. So I won't see them over the holidays. I would like to send them a small gift for the holiday. Something other than flowers. I am looking for suggestions.

What to send to parents for Thanksgiving?
One of the suggestions I would make is to send them a nice table runner and napkin set or ... a gift certificate to their favorite Grocery Store -- so that they can use that to purchase the Thanksgiving meal ingredients this year!
Reply:I know you said no flowers, but the 1800flowers.com site has tons of ideas that aren't just flowers. Just make sure you look soon as most aren't next day delivery.
Reply:Send them a special card of thanks for being your parents! Then add three things you have been very thankful for in 2006; anything from the phone calls from them to something special you (and they) have enjoyed together.

Than send them your love. That's all they really want anyway.

    Cheers

    And Happy Thanksgiving!
Reply:We have stores here where you can send bouquets of candy or cookies. Its kind of fun. I am sure you could find sites on the internet for local places. Or, how about a gift certificate for the movies, if they like that kind of stuff. Something for them to relax after the holiday, especially if they have other family or friends over that day.

    Hope this helps.
Reply:How about a picture of you with them.be thankfull for their love and al the great ties you have had together.
    Reply:a turkey...=)

    chocolate is always nice
Reply:Send them a fun centerpiece for their table - maybe of cranberries, small gourdes (sp?). I think there are some websites that you could even send a turkey to them!

She and her boyfriend, Barry Levine, were among the innocent spectators caught in the shootings on that dreadful day. Allison was known for putting a flower into a guardsman’s rifle and saying. “Flowers are better than bullets, Is dessent a crime?” Allison was 350ft. away from the guardsmen that were firing upon the students. She was shot in her arm and through her chest.

How to Enforce a Homeowners' Assoc. Bylaw?

I am the treasurer of an Homeowners Association. (Yuck) Anyways, an investor has purchased three of the 11 townhomes and a renter in one of them puts her trash in a garbage sack and puts it on top of a shrub by the front door all the time. Sometimes she never gets it to the street on garbage day. The bylaws specifically state that garbage mus be in a container (garbage can) and can never be in the front of the establishment except on designated city garbage days. She and the investor/owner have been warned twice verbally. What can the assoc. do if she continues? The bylaws do not provide for specific penalty amounts. Can we sue the investor and force him to evict the violator? Can we suspend her use of the common areas-that is the drive way, parking spaces, sidewalk and flower beds? Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. The last time the renter was warned she threatened to give us something to "really" complain about.

How to Enforce a Homeowners' Assoc. Bylaw?
Your bylaws allow for fines. Have the association (everyone who shows up at the next meeting) set and issue a fine for each current and future violation with notification to the owner with a quotation from your bylaws. If these fines are not collected in a timely fashion the condo association could then file for a lien on the property to secure payment. I doubt you have a legal chance to suspend any owners full right to enjoyment of their property so forget the idea of suspending use of common areas. Since you have no contract with the tenant you can only focus on the owner and perhaps keeping them informed of past situations and "threats" will aid to your goal.

    Flower store?

would it be a cool job?

how much would I make roughly?? (its a chain throughout the state)

    Flower store?
It really depends on the position you have in the flower shop. I work there now and help run the store with the owner and his wife. It is a high and fast paced industry.

No real set time to really even eat lunch as your so busy your lucky to get one the days go by wicked fast.

You have to learn the names of the flowers and all the prices and all about the arrangements and how to care for them and what to do with them. It is hard work and the job is not as easy as everyone thinks. The money is truly in the knowledge and the skill to design and run the shop.

Any position we have pays more then min wage. If your in school and it is part time or even full time they start you at the going rate for store help and there is room to grow and learn and make more. Plus you can keep your tips. I hope this was helpful and you are welcome to ask any more questions and I will answer.

I started there and within 3 weeks I not only learned the product and prices but he let me run the store for 2 weeks. Then after my 90 days I got my first raise. He already says I am on my way to my next raise at my 6 month mark. So I make great money doing what I do and I don;t my the work cause it helps me feel good. Plus the perks are fantastic!
Reply:It is a profession that you need to learn. The better you are at arrangements the more you will be worth to the company. I think you would meet a lot of nice people. People coming in to buy flowers seem to generally be likable people.
Reply:My daughter worked in a chain flower shop for mimium wage. In her state that was $5.15 an hour.

What is a good plant for a shady location in the SE United states?

I have a flower bed and I need some form of a short 2' high or less plant. I prefer something cheap as this will be added just for curb appeal as I am selling the house. Any Ideas?

What is a good plant for a shady location in the SE United states?
There are many varieties of hosta, and often you can start them from separating a mature plant. Also, dead nettle is pretty, inexpensive and fills spaces nicely without getting tall.
Reply:get small azeleas, a bush which you can buy in all sorts of mature sizes.
Reply:ruellia aka Mexican Petunia Lowe's carries both dwarf and tall varieties, usual colors are purple and pink for both heights, but sometimes you can find the dwarf white variety.

Crotons, coleus, marigolds, really any of the annuals that are colorful, canna lilies.

Here in FL, the stores will be having some of thier spring plants come out now. Try WalMart for your annuals, thier prices are cheap and stuff is usually nice.

Good luck with your sale....hope this info helps.

  • How do you leave children out of wedding and reception??

We are planning to get married next year with a small gatherine (60 people). You would not believe the horrible, brat of a nephew that we have to deal with!! We both don't have anything to do with the parents (brother and sister-in-law) except for maybe 4-5 times a year for family gatherings. How do we state that we don't want this child at the wedding or reception - everyone else invited is happy to leave their tribe at home. This child would quite happily run up and down aisles and pick at all food/cake/flowers and parents do nothing!! Does anyone want my position instead or me ??!! Help !!

How do you leave children out of wedding and reception??
    an adult reception will follow

    EDIT:

maybe find out the age of the kid, and then on the invitation state only people above that age can come?
Reply:If you plan on not having any children at your wedding and reception you can just tell them it is adult only that everyone else has got a baby sitter for the evening. In our case we had hired a couple of people to watch the children in a seperate part of the church, that way all the kids could get together but no one had to worry about kids running around, and yelling.
Reply:you state on the reception invitation "Adults Only" If you don't want them at the actual wedding I suppose you could state "Adults Only" on the event invitation as well
Reply:I'd opt not to invite them. The most they could do is not send you a Christmas card. Even though my friend took the trouble to write adults only on the invitations and called to say they were on a tight budget with limited space, a relative still brought her brats saying that a wedding was for everyone. The kids were out of control and could care about a wedding.

If it ever came up, you could explain that you knew they couldn't enjoy themselves without their children present. Maybe they'll take the hint.
Reply:in the invitation just put the names of the parents, or who u want to specifically invite, instead of writing mr + mrs + family.. i think its understood, also for further clarification u can write 'adult reception'

Reply:Oh man i am in the same sitation. Im getting married in july, and my step-brother has 2 horrible children that have absolutely NO discipline what-so-ever!! So we decided NO kids at all. maybe you can have someone that does speak with them, call them casually and just start to talk. then they can throw in something about your wedding then ask them.. hey by the way, what are you doing with your child? because there are no children invited? maybe that will work out. good luck, its tought but you need to keep in mind that its YOUR day!! good luck and congrats!
    Reply:Provide childcare, problem solved.
Reply:I once received an invitation that said no children to the wedding or reception, no exceptions. There were no children there. It has to be directed at everyone.
Reply:I think I read in Ann Landers: hire a room and some people to take care of small guestlets and state the fact on the invitation. Else: quiet frank talk with his parents about your expectations for brat's behavior (maybe get your parents to do it on your behalf)--if they boycott your wedding in a huff, doesn't sound like it would be much of a loss
    Reply:don't invite them at all.

    or

be sure to mark the invite envelope Mr %26amp; Mrs...don't say and family and kids or anything of the sort, and don't be shy about telling them the child seems to not enjoy these sorts of things because he misbeaves and that you did not invite him, this is his or your brother if siblings can't handle it then don't invite them.
Reply:tell them it'll be real boring and there'll be kissing
Reply:Put the kids to work in the kitchen.
Reply:Look, no matter what you do or what you put on your invitations, you're going to piss someone off, so prepare yourself. Many, many people believe that weddings are about families. You will not avoid conflict with etiquitte on this one. There are a lot of well-meaning answerers out there who say its your day, and it is, but let's be realistic here. Feelings will be hurt.
Reply:A wedding reception w/out kids is boring.....it's so cute to see them running around in their nice clothes acting like monkeys....
Reply:To keep him out, you must keep them ALL out. I would have on the response card "no children under **". Fill in whatever age you need. If they bring him, ask them to leave. You probably won't be bothered with them ever again!
Reply:Let them know up front that your wedding and reception it is a strictly adult affair, and if they show up with the child, just as you would with any uninvited guest, have the wedding coordinator (or anyone other than you) remind them and ask them to leave. Also make sure that all guests know it is adult-only, even if you assume they'd be happy to leave the kids at home.
Reply:Just explain to everybody you are not inviting children because you expect a nice warm reception and thank in advance for them being understanding.
Reply:Tahts easy when u address it you say to mr and mrs so and so. To make sure that he doesnt come threre are a few things todo....

    On the card write

cant wait to see you two there

    or

so and so seee you there

Or call and be like we arent really havin kids at the wedding because it would be too hard and we wouldnt want to invite someand leave others out. and if u want to be extra nice be like so if u need help finding or paying for a sitter we can help u out. They wont care and even if they do it doesnt really matter that kid shouldnt ruin ur day
Reply:Simply state on the RSVP "No Children"

    It's perfectly acceptable.

If you feel like that would cause major stress in the wedding party, then provide daycare and put on the invitations that it is mandatory for every child.

Miss Manners says it much better than I do.
Reply:Simply state on the invitations that is to be attended by adults only.
Reply:If all your other relatives are ok with leaving their children at home then by all means have an Adult only wedding. Just mention it at the bottom of your invitation..."adults only please". You could have a big party or bbq later on with everyone in your extended family, with children in tow, to celebrate your marriage. You only get into problems if you invite certain children and not others. Basically it's all or none!! Best wishes.............
Reply:It wouldn't be fair to let one person (child or child's family) ruin or take away from this very important day. With a child who is undisciplined, the attention usually ends up on them. And your wedding day should be on you and your spouse to be.

You are also paying a lot of money to have the ceremony and reception. You shouldn't have to pay more money to hire daycare, a babysitter, or another space for the children.

Sometimes it's hard with family and people putting pressure on you and making you feel obligated to invite people you don't want. But if someone is going to make you uncomfortable or unhappy or in some way distract you from the joy of your wedding, they really shouldn't be there.
    Reply:Say brat kids not invited
Reply:You tell them to their face. They should understand especially since it's your wedding day!
Reply:Feelings will be hurt yeah but ... at least they won't ruin your one perfect day!!!!!
Reply:best answer since you only see them 4 or 5 times a year, why invite them anyway? Or send a special invite, your welcome to come adults only!!! Please find sitter for junior.
Reply:There are two envelopes to address when mailing wedding invitations. The outer envelope is stamped and contains the inner envelope. The inner envelope is where you put the names of the person/s you are inviting to the wedding. (Betty and Tom), (Mr and Mrs. Thomas). These are the only people that are invited. True, some people will ignore this and bring a friend, a buddy, a baby, their mother or grandmother and several children if they have them...or all of the above.

You can prevent this from happening by sending rsvp cards that specifically state how many people are attending instead of just a blank line that says whether or not they will attend. If they say 5 people are coming and you only invited 2 you will have to call and inform them that you're sorry they misunderstood that only they are invited because you can't accommodate three extra guests because of space restrictions. You don't have to ask if they are bringing the children or tell them no children are allowed.
Reply:Kindly tell them you wish not to have children, you can state it in the invitation if you'd like. If they choose not to come then it is their loss.
Reply:Weddings are an adult affair. it's that simple.

The invitation should state the invitees' names. They should know better. If they don't get the hint, flat out tell them no children are invited. It's your day.
Reply:Supposedly the etiquette states that when you address the invitations, leaving the children's' name off of the invitations means they aren't invited but for my wedding I found out that they just bring them anyway and act like they didn't understand. I have also heard of invitations that said right on them "adults only reception to follow" or something of that nature.

Also, if they do bring the brat, have someone (preferably someone who is not shy) designated to keep the bratty kid's family in line. One thing I also found out is that on your wedding day, your family will do what it take to make sure the day runs smooth for you.

Good luck- don't you just wish people could take a hint?
Reply:I have six children. I have also been married more than once. I know what mistakes to make. It is a mistake to not include everyone. Don't leave him out of the reception or not invite to the wedding. I know many people will give you advice such as, "it is your wedding do as you please". BIG MISTAKE. A wedding is joining of families. Find something good about this child. You are going to be related. Ask someone you trust to take a special interest in the child for you during the wedding and at the reception. Look, it is only a wedding. It is not the beginning or ending of the world... not even of your relationship.... but the seeds of discontent that you will plant will last forever... don't start off your relationship that way. I have plenty of other advice as to what not to do :) if you write.

How can i replicate the guitar sounds of 70s rock?

I'm an acoustic guitar player who has recently started playing electric. I want to recreate the sounds of Sabbath, Blue Cheer and Flower Travellin Band - anyone have any suggestions on the best setup to achieve this? I currently play a telecaster through a marshall valve state. Can anyone can suggest a pedal or ideal setup (funds allowing)?

How can i replicate the guitar sounds of 70s rock?
Glad to see you taking the plunge into some great sounds! Your Tele is a single coil pickup sound (like a Stratocaster)...great, but you'll additionally want a 'humbucker' tone, as it is all over 70's (and today's) recordings. The most common examples of these 'double coil' guitars are probably a Les Paul, an SG, and a 335 semi hollowbody. Gibson made these three types originally, but you're in luck (!) because today, more inexpensive (yet quality) makers are making copies of these fine instruments. I own plenty of expensive guitars, but as far as your price range goes, I believe the best place to start would be Jay Turser...I can hardly believe the quality at their price points myself, and that's comparing them to Gibson and Fender. If you do "eBay" (and anyone can), you can score a new one anywhere from $135.00 to $300.00, or thereabouts. Many other fine lines out there; also check out Essex (SX) at rondomusic.com...again, mind blowing prices, and alot of options. Eastwood, Dillion...the list is endless. Be sure to double check that the guitar has humbucking pickups in it though, because there are options for these models that deviate from the norm by using a single coil (P-90) or maybe even a mini humbucker. You'll also need an overdrive pedal to achieve the distorted sounds you mentioned...again, a ton of options. This will take an already distorted signal you achieve from your amp and put it over the top. While a unit with tubes would be best to warm up your tone, it would be more costly too...you'd probably be very happy with a more economical non-tube unit also. I'd start by buying a 'Guitar Player' magazine, and checking out all the ads...you're sure to find a lot of great places to initiate your search for overdrive pedals, etc. that will put you in the price range you're able to afford. Harmonycentral.com is also a great resource for anything you'd like to know about guitars, amps and effects. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Reply:Have a look around Youtube, or look up some fansites - they should be able to tell you. Also, newer bands like Kings of Leon and The Datsuns use a fat old sound, you could try looking them up too.

I think there's a documentary or two about the history of metal knocking about on Youtube and I swear they talk about guitar set-ups on it. Check it out.
Reply:I'm not an expert on the technical side of sound, but when I play sabbath I have the treble up high, then bass and middle about in the middle. For solos use the treble pick-up. For the tune of Iron man, for example, I use both pick-ups with a bit more bass. I have a wah pedal, but I turn it off for sabbath. Using just the amp seems to get the sound.
Reply:your gonna need some kinda chorus pedal also.
Reply:get your guitar and jump into bill and ted's phonebox - they'll take you to the '70s - EXCELLENT!! dananananeeeoooowwwww!

Reply:get yourself a distortion pedal, a flanger pedal, and a wah-wah pedal....you can create amazing sounds. well, at least i think you can, i tried playing guitar, but i wasn't very good, but my buddy is, and those are some of the pedals he uses.
Reply:Try something new!...that 40years plus?...les paul and marshall sound has been played out and is boring!...but if you must be second best?...try substituting your tele for a gibson and a marshall guvnor pedal!...the amp should be a 1962 marshall 50watt amp top...running flat out...thru a 4x12 slope fronted 'celestion loaded'cabinet?...dont try to turn the volumn down because it causes the tone circuit to become active!...and spoils the tone...hence why you dont use marshall amps in working mans clubs?...hope this is helpfull...

I am sending flowers to my Great Aunt's funeral out of state.....?

I was going to just sign me and my husband's name on the card. Should I write something else? I was close when I was a child but not as an adult. Also, what is the proper way to sign my name and my huband's name and include my maiden name? I was going to do it this way:

Mr and Mrs John and Jennifer (Smith) Jones

    Is that correct?

I am sending flowers to my Great Aunt's funeral out of state.....?
That is an excellent way to sign your name(s). If there is a next of kin, make sure your write a little note to them on the card. Something like " Dear (name of closest relative) I loved Aunt --, we are both thinking of you and your family..." and if you can, try to give it a personal touch.

It is nice that you are sending flowers. Believe me I have been on the "closest relative" end and it means everything....
    Reply:YOUR WAY IS JUST FINE
Reply:Since you were close when you were little you may say something like-"In loving memory of a great woman".And yes-I would probably include my maiden name too.

should I send a card, flowers, gift basket, email? I don't know.

How do I thank the firm that I have been working part time for, when they have reimbursed my expenses for?
Write a letter...or if it's going to a group a card..short note. That is sufficient! And very thoughtful! If you are hoping for more work a gift basket of food is nice...I've had vendors do this for my employees.
Reply:Hmmm. Reimbursement of business expenses is a standard practice. You wouldn't send a gift basket for getting a paycheck that you earned, so why send one because you got back money that you put out for them? I hate to say not to bother, because courtesy is in short supply, but I think it is not called for in this case. A phone call or email thanking them for prompt payment should be more than sufficient.

What is the best way to dry a bouqet of flowers?
there are many techniques, but the one I use most it hanging them upside down in a dark closet for about a week or so. Make sure the blooms are still pretty tight and make sure no moisture gets to them while they are drying....

Reply:As a plant ecologist, I have a different view of flowers. I can picture hundreds of kinds. When I do, I'm thinking about how the plant uses the flower in its native ecosystem for reproduction and how particular features of the flower reveal the plant's taxonomic history (phylogeny). Roses are weird because they have been artificially selected to have so many petals (wild roses only have 5 petals), so they're kind of "freakish" to me.

    *edit*

Am I being thumbed down for not thinking "spiritually enough", or because I said roses are freakish? I study plants because I think they're amazing. I just think big, fluffy roses are kind of odd in the same way I think poodles are. Oh well...

How would you characterize this rhetoric in this passage?

Such was the young clergyman's condition, and so

imminent the prospect that his dawning light would be

extinguished, all untimely, when Roger Chillingworth

made his advent to the town. His first entry on the

scene, few people could tell whence, dropping down,

as it were, out of the sky, or starting from the nether

earth, had an aspect of mystery, which was easily

heightened to the miraculous. He was now known to

be a man of skill; it was observed that he gathered

herbs, and the blossoms of wild-flowers, and dug up

roots and plucked off twigs from the forest-trees, like

one acquainted with hidden virtues in what was value-less

to common eyes. He was heard to speak of Sir

Kenelm Digby, and other famous men, -- whose scien-

tific attainments were esteemed hardly less than super-

natural, -- as having been his correspondents or asso-

ciates. Why, with such rank in the learned world, had

he come hither? What could he, whose sphere was in

great cities, be seeking in the wilderness? In answer

to this query, a rumor gained ground, -- and, however

absurd, was entertained by some very sensible people,

-- that Heaven had wrought an absolute miracle, by

transporting an eminent Doctor of Physic, from a Ger-

man university, bodily through the air, and setting him

down at the door of Mr. Dimmesdale's study! Individuals

of wiser faith, indeed, who knew that Heaven pro-

motes its purposes without aiming at the stage-effect of

what is called miraculous interposition, were inclined to

see a providential hand in Roger Chillingworth's so opportune arrival.

This idea was countenanced by the strong interest

which the physician ever manifested in the young

clergyman; he attached himself to him as a parishioner,

and sought to win a friendly regard and confidence

from his naturally reserved sensibility. He

expressed great alarm at his pastor's state of health, but

was anxious to attempt the cure, and, if early

undertaken, seemed not despondent of a favorable result.

The elders, the deacons, the motherly dames, and the

young and fair maidens, of Mr. Dimmesdale's flock,

were alike importunate that he should make trial of the

physician's frankly offered skill. Mr. Dimmesdale gently

    repelled their entreaties.

How would you characterize this rhetoric in this passage?
    elevated, formal, detached
Reply:I'd characterize it as too long to waste time on.
Reply:It reads like something back in the time of the Bronte sisters, when you never used one adjective if three would do.

In style, the rhetoric is pedantic. And boring.
