I've been seeing this man for the last 6 months. He lives in another state. I thought he would send me some flowers for this Valentine day, but all I recd was just a call with a Happy Valentine day wish.
He absolutely has more money than he can spend. I'm upset. Should I tell him how I feel or should I just let it goes?
Valentine day...I'm upset!!!?
just let it go...He called you and that is all that matters the most :) Don't tell him anything...don't rush!! You never know if you will receive them later ;)
Reply:I'm in a similar situation but my guy lives in the same town and hasn't even called or sent an email. I want a real man. Dammit, sorry I know that wasn't much of an answer. I say screw him.
Reply:maybe hes just afraid of commitment. i know its been 6 months, but some guys just arent ready and it takes them a while. if you know how he feels about it, dont worry about the present problem. but if you arent sure how he feels, just have a talk with him.
Reply:well i think u shouldnt expect anything! so what, its val-day! does he tell u he loves u, does he take care of u, is he sweet, is he a gentleman, does he always listen when u got something to say? then why do u need flowers in order to be with him? flowers are just a very small detail, but if he does all these things then u shouldnt be mad at him. relax and enjoy ur day.
Reply:I'm going to tell you like my husband tells me. I can't read your mind, if something is bothering you then tell me.....so I would suggest to you to tell him how you feel. He doesn't know unless you tell him. What did you purchase for him? Not all men look at Valentine's day as a female holiday. I pamper my husband just as much as he pampers me. He might feel the same about you. You didn't even call him to say Happy Valentine's day or you did nothing special for him either. It can go both ways, think about it. Overall, I think you should call him and let him know how you feel about the whole Valentine's day holiday. Good luck to ya and Happy Valentine's day!!!
Reply:honestly, he has the money, it takes 2 minutes to call the flower shop and order flowers. he didn't do it. It takes 10 minutes to get a card and mail it. Last time I checked you could get them 2 for $1 at the dollar store. Did he do this? If your awnser is no and no, raise your standards and get rid of him
Reply:girl i would just tell him how you feel about him and everything..i mean i would tell him on the phone or in a letter.. and if he doesnt listen to what your telling him.. then i would tell that you dont want him..
Reply:Let it go.. Its about love not $
Reply:Tell him how you feel - but don't be pushy about it. If you're upset he definitely should know it, but then again, Valentine's Day isn't the most important day to show love.
Reply:Are you really that selfish. Maybe he is testing you if he has money.

Lotus posture?
How do people do that posture(meditating pose)?
I know some people that can but they're really flexable.
How do you do it?
here's some pictures of people in it.
http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...
Does it really make you feel like a flower?
Is it true that the reason for it is so during a trance state you don't fall over?
(ex: I started to have a vision how so stop wars and bring world peace but i fell over during it because I wasn't in a lotus posture so it stoped)
Lotus posture?
Before enlightenment, chop wood
After enlightenment, chop wood
I know this will help
Peace in the heart
Reply:I can just about manage it (my Mum got us to do / try it as kids - we're a lot more plastic / flexible then, and it can set one up for / last a lifetime).
Just as stable (in fact I find it more so) is the half lotus - viiraasana ('the hero's posture').
It's the one the Buddha is said to've used.
I still use it when meditating.
Reply:They can do it because they free their minds of everything else...it is a big help in aiding meditation. I unfortunately can only do it for a short period of time but hopefully I will continue to get better at it.
Reply:Yes, it makes you feel like a flower. Try not to laugh when the tickling of bee's feet starts--you might get stung.
Reply:The full Lotus is difficult and for some (myself included) not advisable, though it does help with your posture and keeping the rest of you easily in place. I prefer the half lotus and like Goodfella said it does agree with many people, but when meditating posture doesn't really matter and you can if disciplined enough meditate any time in any position, though it takes a lot of concentration which is why the lotus and half lotus help as they minimize the effort required to stay in one position allowing you to meditate with ease.
Reply:It takes practice, don't pay much attention to visions, just be. Being as it is is enlightenment, nothing needs to be accomplished.
Reply:it takes a long time to be able to sit like that comfortably for a long period of time.
it doesn't make me feel like a flower. it makes me feel like a human. it keeps your back straight so it's better for breathing.
it's not to keep you from falling over.
the reason for it is so that when you meditate, your body doesn't get in the way by giving you aches and pains and itches. you sit in that, or any, position for a long time, so that you don't get fidgety when you put your attention toward your mind.
Reply:My knees cannot handle it. Although when I did manage to get into that posture a couple of times, it was quite stable, and did help meditation.

How would you respond? What would you do in this case?
Yesterday late afternoon, I accidently mowed over a sprig of a newly planted flower on the border between the house next door and my house. Apparently, there was a wire next to the freshly planted flowered plant. Unbeknownst to me, this devilish act was perpetrated. The victim? A Police Captain of the largest city in my state 20 or so miles away. He happens to occupy the house next to mine. We do have history of less the friendly relationship since he took on his 3rd wife. Before, it was an amicable relationship. We actually had good conversations on my deck, along with my wife, many good nights of discussion. THEN, the new wife arrived along with two little indoor type non-stop ear-piercing, screeching, barking demon dogs. Asked them to control them with no success, eventually, won judgment from the local judge for them to quiet them. Obviously, THEY resented it. So now, back to yesterday. They actually called 911 and said they were going to court and sue me over a $3.00 plant. Wow.
How would you respond? What would you do in this case?
Let me start off by saying Thank You for your compliment regarding being one of the "knowledgable" people. I take great pride in understanding our rights as citizens and as such, have even gone to the extreme length of serving 8 years in our military for the sole purpose of defending those rights. So again, I Thank You for your trust and support. Now on to bigger and better things; Let the fool pay the 250.00 some odd dollars to file a civil action for a 3.00 payoff, it was an accident and I'm guessing no one was seriously injured (hope the tree huggers don't read this) in this most unfortunate incident. Should this "high powered Police Capt" persist in his claim of premeditated murder, then your only hope is to plead incurable insanity or temporary blindness caused by the intense rays of the sun due to global warming, that should do the trick I would think and if not send me your address when you get to your Federal Prison and I will make sure that I fill you in on some of the stupidity that continues to go on in this great nation of ours. God Bless and Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
Reply:I would replace the plant, with a new one. Also, as a police officer myself, I would say that if a CAPTAIN called 911 to report damaged flowers, that is a GROSS misuse of emergency services and he could be disciplined by his superiors for that, if that is indeed what happened. Bottom line, fix whatever you damaged, and don't sweat the small stuff!
Reply:That is it. You have to be cordial, tolerant and co - operative with neighbours. If yyou are at logger heads, then there is time only for disputes and claims. Once you sart picking at someone, they start picking at you at the earliest opportunity.
The unfriendly neighbours are helpful than distant friends.
Reply:Just pay for the plant, just to be a good neighbor. There is nothing criminal about an accident, I can't believe a police captain would call 911 for that, especially since what happened wasn't a crime!
Reply:Let them take you to court for it. Be sure to take pictures to prove that the plant has not been completely destroyed. They will get laughed out of civil court.
Reply:We too have our share of police chiefs in my area that really and truly should be looking for work in another field. Good luck!
John D: Ya gotta get out more, bud, they're out there, I guarantee it!
Reply:Just replace the plant and be more careful next time.
(no one is going to spend any time and money filing a frivilous civil lawsuit for $3.)
Reply:just buy a new plant. that should take care of it.
Reply:Lawyer and sell the house
Reply:It was probably an empty threat. I know in Virginia, it costs at least $42 to file a civil suit...not to mention the time it takes to fill out the paperwork and the day off of work to come to court. I'd just buy them a new flower/plant and even offer to plant it for them so that they don't have to take the time. Apologize and be the bigger person in this situation. If he still wants to be a brat or whatever, just back off and if he files the civil suit, just pay the $3 (and there may be fees associated...) in open court before the judge and let it be done with. If you agree to pay it AFTER court, the judge may enter the judgment and in order for it to be "cleared" later, the plaintiff (your neighbor) would have to file something saying the debt was satisfied. And it sounds like they may give the runaround when it comes to that. If you do it before court (MAKE THEM WRITE YOU A RECEIPT AND SIGN IT) or during court, the judge can technically dismiss the case as paid in full and it will never go against your credit.

Trying to market to large office buildings... How...?
Our company manufactures and sells flower vending machines to local florists. We find it best to find suitable locations for the vending machines first, then contact local florists in the area to see which ones want to buy a machine and place them in these locations. One venue we are trying to get into is large office building lobbies. We are based in Louisiana but we sell these nationwide. How can I find out what large office buildings are (for example) in Los Angeles and who to contact about trying to lease space in the lobby for our flower vending machine.
I tried contacting some realtors but they all say the amount of space we want to lease is too small for them to consider and that we must talk to the building ower/leasing people directly. Finding these buildings/owners/leasing people from out of state is our challenge.
Anyone have any ideas on how we can locate and contact these people by phone?

Take a look at getting involved with BOMA (Google that)
Also D%26amp;B has a list service called the selectory:

That should get you started.
Reply:Hello my friend,
It sounds like you need a list of office buildings with phone numbers and the contact name of the leasing agent or building owner.
I used to be in the list business.

Is sending a thank you card a proper response?
Here's the deal....we had a death in our immediate family (my mother-in-law). We traveled out of state to attend the funeral and to settle her affairs. We have sent thank you cards to everyone who sent flowers, who helped with preparations, etc. We received numerous sympathy cards from co-workers and friends.
My question is this ... is it proper to send a thank-you card in response to a sympathy card? Or do we simply accept the cards with no response from us?
Is sending a thank you card a proper response?
You send thank you cards to the people who .....signed the "book" to thank them for coming....the people who sent flowers...the people who did anything to help your family.
You can thank people who sent cards when you see them but a thank you card is not necessary.
Reply:It's not necessary to send thank you's in response to sympathy cards but it is a nice jesture if you do.It sounds like you've sent all the ones that are really necessary.
Reply:go with what is in your heart to do, i personally did not send thank you cards in response to sympathy cards when my father in law passed away last year. but if you feel you should do it.
Reply:I don't believe that you need to send a thank you card for a card that you received unless they sent you any type of money of gift
Reply:what r u askin? reply is must...%26amp; with your signature( not just a printed card)
Reply:I really think it is cause then they know that you received it and that lets them know that you appreciate there sympathy to all that has happen to you and your family
Reply:In my opinion, it was okay to send those cards
Reply:accept the cards no thank you card after that
Reply:You should send a thank you card just because they went out of their way to send you a sympathy card. If you are close to people you can call them and thank them personally for the card but for people whom you don't know so well you can just send them a thank you for your sympathies card so that they don't think you are ungrateful.
Reply:My grandfather just passed away last week and we also recieved lots of sympathy cards and we haven't sent out any thank you cards. when my mother's father(my other grandfather) passed away last year i don't remember sending any out.
Reply:It is entirely proper (and expected). Simply thank them for their kind thoughts, prayers, etc....Don't say "Thanks for the card"
Reply:It is not necessary to send thank you notes to anyone sending a simple sympathy card. If however, money was enclosed for a memorial gift then one is appropriate. I'm sorry for your loss.

French military history is this right?
COMPLETE MILITARY HISTORY OF FRANCE
Gallic Wars - Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian.
Hundred Years War - Mostly lost, saved at last by female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare; "France's armies are victorious only when NOT led by a Frenchman."
Italian Wars - Lost. France becomes the first and only country to ever lose two wars -- when fighting Italians.
Wars of Religion - France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots.
Thirty Years War - France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.
War of Devolution - Tied. Frenchmen take to wearing red flower pots as chapeaux.
The Dutch War - Tied.
War of the Augsburg League / King William's War / French and Indian War -Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded Frogophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French military power.
War of the Spanish Succession - Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved ever since.
American Revolution - In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare; "France only wins when America does most of the fighting."
French Revolution - Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French.
The Napoleonic Wars - Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.
The Franco-Prussian War - Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.
World War I - Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.
World War II - Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.
War in Indochina - Lost. French forces plead sickness, take to bed with the Dien Bien Flu.
Algerian Rebellion - Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare; "We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese and Esquimaux.
War Against Greenpeace - Lost. 1985, the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior prepares to sail for Moruroa Atoll for a major campaign against French nuclear testing. Agents of the DGSE [secret service] bomb and sink the ship in Auckland Harbor. I tree-hugger sans tree drowns. Six weeks later agents Prieur and Mafart plead guilty to charges of manslaughter and willful damage. They get sentences of 10 years and 7 years. French Prime Minister Fabius admits to state terrorism on TV.
War on Terrorism - France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe. Attempts to surrender to Vietnamese ambassador fail after he takes refuge in
a McDonald's.
French military history is this right?
Actually Fr?ulein use to be what our miss is today.
But in German quite literally means little women.
But in popular culture of that time meant slüt or whore.
Reply:All of what you say rings true. But, I contend that a lot of the failure of the French people in wars has been because of poor leadership, not the lack of a desire to win by the French people! The French people have always been willing to fight for their country, they just have never been properly prepared, equipped or had the leadership needed to win. One of the reasons that they have allowed so many Muslims into France is that they at one time controlled Syria %26amp; Lebanon %26amp; felt an obligation to allow them to immigrate to France for political reasons because many had befriended the French while being occupied by the French.
Reply:that is correct as far as i can tell. In fact we could loose Afghanastan simply because they are involved they are very fair weather friends and we certainly better watch our backs , they team up with China to oppose us in the UN. one things for sure , we'd never have to worry about going to war with them, in fact i think them have a preprinted surrender declaration on file with us. just in case.

Enough with the Jokes!!!!!!?
Im Tired of responding to the Gay Driver jokes. Heres the real deal and my retaliation.
1. Jr is the one who got pimped. Teresa had him "strolling the track" to make her money. No OO's. Now whos gay?
2. Kahne is the one in the commercial running from a car full of women. What straight dude runs from a car full of women? "I must be dreamin".... then he runs!
3. Waltrip sounds like one of those guys that plays on the sitcom "Queer I for the straight guy". Im waiting for him to be sponsered by "KY" lubricants.
4. Stewarts still trying to find a way to cancel out his gay polarity. Notice how he liked the flower theme in his home depot commercial? Other guy said "suk up"
If your one of those "Jeff is gay" people and I missed your driver, please state his name so I can assist (exploit) him out of the closet.

It's not a crime to not be married or have a girl friend that the public gets to see. Jr isn't gay, I hear he's somewhat of a jerk to women which is why you don't see him with one. I've been to 4 races, women are nuts about Kasey Kahne. Tony Stewart was engaged to be married a couple of years ago, but it didn't get to the alter.
Jeff Gordon is not gay in my opinion. I'm not a fan of his but he's a great driver and is now married for the 2nd time.

Should I send flowers?
My oldest daughter's biological father (she's been adopted by my husband) has two other children by 2 other mothers: a boy, and a girl.
Well, had..
We are pretty close to the other girl and her mother- she and I didn't used to get along, but we became friends later on for the sake of our daughters- we wanted them to have each other- even if their "daddy" wasn't going to be a part of their lives. The little boy and his mother we never really knew- they live in another state- but we have both talked to her a couple times and there was no bad blood or anything.
Well, the little boy passed away- he was 6. Our daughters never met him- nor did we- and we haven't really spoken to his mother in a long time. His funeral is on Thursday, and the other mother and I were talking today about sending flowers or a card with a donation in it. We know our ex won't be there because he never cared about any of his kids, but we want to send it from our daughters- since he was their brother. Cont'd
Should I send flowers?
Well you can think of it this way. When people hear on the news that a child has died and that there is a charity that is collecting cards for the family, perfect strangers will write cards to the child's parents.
I don't think the mother would be offended in any way. But perhaps you should keep the card simple, just a "sorry for your loss," or something like that, and of course, the little kids' signatures.
Reply:Call the funeral home and ask if there is any special plans for memorials such as donations to an organization or charity. If not, then send flowers to the home with his sisters names inside the card and the words, From you sisters, with their names.
Reply:Send flowers. It would be the right thing to do.
Reply:You and the other Mother might consider making a donation to an organization, the one most closely representing the reason the litle boy died. Make the donation in Honor of "name of the child" and have the card sent with the donation from you and your daughters and have the thank you card to be sent to the boys mother. The Mother should recieve a card then from the charitable organization telling her they have recieved a donation in honor of "her boys name" from "You and your daughters names". This card would take a while to get to her giving her time to have started her grieving and when she is not so overwhelmed with the immediate rush of people who will be with her and supportive of her but will dwindle with time.
What ever you decide I don't think you can err on the side of remembering and letting some one know you know they are in pain and you care.....
I just read your last addendum, by all means it is ok to leave out the word sisters, she will know and not anyone else needs to.
Reply:I would send flowers, it will let them know you've been thinking about them,
Reply:I think you should definitely send flowers... any thoughts are appreciated in tough times.

Need help in Ohio Case where left scene of accident?
My friend was driving and crashed his car in the flowers at a business. No damage was done. Only tired tracks left in flower bed. He deserted his car there (it was stuck on a curb that was before the flower bed) and it was towed by police. It has been in police impound for almost month now. He has completely avoided the situation after the initial call to police (3 days after the incident) when they told him he needed to talk to a detective. They did not state the purpose to him. He doesn't think it's a big deal and is letting his insurance company try to get car out. I think the cops are going to want to see him still because of leaving the scene. Anything anyone knows about this would be very helpful. Thanks
Need help in Ohio Case where left scene of accident?
His insurance company will not get the car out of impound. He will have to show up to the police station with id and proof that he owns the car to get a release. They will not issue that release until he talks to the detective. Avoiding the situation is only going to cost him more money (for the daily impound charge) in the long run.
Reply:Wow.
Avoiding problems only makes things worse. I have no idea why people have never learned that. By avoiding the police, by abandoning his car, he has made his problem that much worse. If he doesn't confront his problem, he is likely going to be spending time in jail.
I had a friend who got in a fight, they other guy landed in the hospital and had to have eye surgery.
My friend insisted the fight was started by the other person and would not go to see the police. When they called him, he would get angry, state it wasn't his fault, and threaten the police if they try to come to his house.
So they did, with a swat team. They arrested him in the street for all his neighbors to see. He was in jail for 9 months before the trail came. Then was found guilty of starting the fight. He lost his job, his home, a year of his life in jail, and has to pay $25,000 to the victim. All he initially had to do was talk to the police and explain his side of the story.
Tell your friend to stop being a fool.
Reply:Impound fees are adding up, even if he doesn't claim the car.

Ohio legal question?
My friend was driving and crashed his car in the flowers at a business. No damage was done. Only tired tracks left in flower bed. He deserted his car there (it was stuck on a curb that was before the flower bed) and it was towed by police. It has been in police impound for almost month now. He doesn't think it's a big deal and is letting his insurance company try to get car out. I think the cops are going to want to see him still because of leaving the scene. Anything anyone knows about this would be very helpful. does anyone know the penalty for something of this such? i'm really trying to get him to talk to cops, he thinks there's no penalty though and it'd be a waste of time.
Ohio legal question?
OK...as you have explained this, your friend will probably be charged with leaving the scene of an accident at the minimum. Not a major problem. He is going to get in more trouble over ignoring the calls from the Police asking him at this point to come in to talk to them. Next will be a warrent for his arrest if he continues to ignore. Another point is the insurance company could care less about getting his car out of impound. They only insure it, period! Meantime, the storage fees add up each day and soon it will cost too much to get it back. Kiss that goodbye. Last point here is if your friend thinks there is no penalty and it would be a waste of time, why has he avoided the issue and not talked to the Police. My advice is to try to get him to go in and talk to them before he buries himself so deep he would be looking at jail time. Good luck and I do hope this has helped you.
Reply:If the car was stuck, damage WAS done. It is not possible to get the car stuck without damage to whatever it is stuck on. Report It
Reply:He should go to jail for leaving the scene, and possible avoiding the cops. If he does not turn himself in, and they stop him for something else, he will get more time than he already is facing.

What do you ladies think?
I have a crush on this woman I work with, she has a b/f who lives out of state. We hangout at least once a week. I was wondering if I should send her flowers with a card that reads Hope you have a nice day. Do you think that would be out of line or sweet?
What do you ladies think?
If she has a man in her life, you should not interfere.
When she is available, then you will have your chance
Reply:i think its a bit out of line. i think you should leave the relationship between you guys as it is, until you get a green card from her, saying she's ready for the next step.
unfortunately as she is in a relationship - she kinda makes the rules.
I think the flowers would trip her out, and make her distant from you as she will think you're moving into a teritory that isnt available as for now.
good luck though...
but when you do see her, always look good, smell nice, flirt a little, i mean a little. nd let the nature take its cause. ok...
good luck

Reply:see her reaction first.how she really treats you.doing such foolish thing may take her far from you.
Reply:very sweet
Reply:its quite sweet i think!
Reply:I think you should rather just tell her that. Not that she wont like the flowers, she will probably love them, but what if her man sees it ? What would he think? Rather just tell her, 'have a nice day' or whatever.
Reply:AAwwll that's sooo cute, you should totally send her yellow roses first just to let her know that's she's a great friend, don't send her red roses too soon.
Reply:yes thats a nice start do what you do holla.
Reply:very cute and sweet. :)
Reply:she has already a boyfriend so if she seems in love with this guy then dont interfere...I wonder if the boyfriend knows about your hangout once a week,i quess she considers you her mate so dont ruin it by losing your friendship.Whenever this long-distance thing seems over then you send her a cheer-up card.Wait awhile if she is worth it

I'm trying to write a novel, is this Chapter good?
Tell me if it's good but try to keep down the criticism I'm very sensitive.
The Dreams and the Rose of Heather Dormeur
Prologue: Heather Dormeur the Angel on Earth
Heather was a young and very gracious, beautiful, and kindhearted girl. She had radiant blonde hair the glimmered in the sunlight. Her skin was lightly tanned and her eyes were gorgeous pools of water that brightened the dullest of windows. She was an intellectual girl as well, very popular and well liked by everyone. She was asked out to dates several times by every boy in her school. She also helped out at the animal center and donated to the local orphanage every week. She was just an angel that flew from heaven to bring splendor and optimism into the dreary and cruel planet known as Earth. Maybe she was, but we will never know.
Chapter 1
“Honey, wake up, wake up!” Mrs. Dormeur said with a gentle voice.
Heather woke up with a long and lethargic yawn that signified her long, deep sleep. She wasn’t a morning person at all; she referred to mornings as a guillotine that cuts off sleep and relaxation. Yet, with a reluctant sigh she got up.
“Mom, do I have to get up at six in the morning! School isn’t for another like two hours!” She said with a voice that made her seem like she was about to die a painful death. Her mother said not a word for two hours. This perplexed her.
“Mom you ready to drive me to school?”
“You’re not going to school today hon’.”
“Why today is Friday right? I also don’t recall today being a holiday, and today is supposed to clear up later today.”
“You’re not going to school because we are going to a funeral today.”
“Whose funeral is it?”
The room was silent for a few minutes, and Mrs. Dormeur started to cry her eyes out, and with eyes filled with tears and her voice gasping for air. She said “Your father’s funeral.” Heather’s heart fell, it seemed like it wasn’t a heart, just an empty black hole with nothing but pain, fear, and gloom trapped inside.
Heather didn’t believe this was true. Her mom had taken acting classes, and she had seen her act she was quite exceptional. “Okay mom nice trick but I don’t believe you.” She said with a skeptical tone. “It’s true Heather, its true.” She said still sobbing. “He never came home last night, I got a call from the police yesterday night saying that he had died when a careless driver crashed into him making him swirl off the highway and fall into the river and he drowned…” Heather was in absolute shock. She couldn’t hold back the tears and she sobbed and mourned the loss of her dad. Never did she think this would happen. With frail and sorrowful hearts they got in the car after on a stormy morning in April. The road seemed like an interminable, for the drive was dull and the day was a drowsy one in which someone could just fall asleep and dream…
Heather had found herself in a cell with bright and vivid images of her father, these pictures showed all their good times together, at the bake sale in 4th grade. There was also a picture of him teaching her how to swim when she was four. The picture of him teaching her how to ride a bike was also there. So many pictures from her younger years and they all made her heart fill with bliss yet suddenly they spontaneously combusted into small sparkling specks of the pictures. Heather cried once this had happened, yet the pieces formed together and turned into a spectral form of what looked like her father. Heather looked up in amazement at the brilliant figure. He wore a robe of fine white silk and gold, his face was hidden behind a veil.
Heather was in total awe! She could not move a muscle in her body. With a very harsh and brutal voice he said, “Heather… my lovely Heather.” Heather couldn’t help but feel discomfort. He continued saying, “Heather I have to tell you a secret, which has condemned me from the very day you were born.” He took a small pause and silence came over the cell, it deeply disturbed Heather and gave her goose bumps. In a scream that was filled with hatred he yelled, “I hated you I always have, I always will! You were such a burden to grow up. Always asking questions and wanting to learn things! It annoyed and tortured me in the very pit of my soul! Yet that is not why I loathed you.” Heather was completely paralyzed. He continued “I was thinking of killing you at the peak of your life. I had planned to right after the day of my death!” He carefully lifted his veil and under it was a blue and lifeless face filled with anger and rage. “I had died because god protected you; god loved you and hated me that is why I loathed you because you were too perfect too much of an angel. I could see it I our eyes the day you were born.”
The cells just shattered into darkness. Heather ran while all the memories of her dad, which were all around her, were being consumed by the encroaching darkness. Heather’s father yelled, “You can not escape death! Oh no never can you! I wish I could’ve ended your life but the cruel tortures of humanity and life will devour your being and turn it into nothing! NOTHING!” The darkness was coming for her catching up… When suddenly she heard a voice…
“Heather Dormeur! Wake up! Wake up we’re here!”
Heather woke up with her eyes wide open and a face that looked bleak and pale.
“Honey are you okay?” Mrs. Dormeur asked.
“Ya mom I’m okay I just had this nightmare.” Heather said with a somnolent and a slightly fearful voice.
“You sure, your face is really pale and…”
“Don’t worry mom, I just got a little car sick… That’s all”
“Okay then lets go get ready in the bathroom”
Heather was thought about the dream she had of her father, she was very confused and a stormy cloud of melancholy, hatred, and guilt came over her. She had never thought her father had that of her this way.
As she got out of the she had noticed that they were at a very old cemetery. The tombstones were covered in this grotesque mold that had grown and the stones looked like mounds of pebbles glued together. The dirt was more like sand, to the touch it was very soft to the touch but very hard to grab.
She had entered the convenience store on the other side of the street after seeing where the funeral would take place. She disliked wearing mourning outfits just for the fact that they were only back and so sad to look at, a whole group would just make her cry at the spot.
She went back to the cemetery and saw that all of the family on her dad’s side was there. There many that looked depressed naturally, stressed out, there were some plump and slender ones they looked like a very odd bunch of people who you would never guess them to be related. Heather was not paying attention to them though, her mother was greeting them, and she could not help but only look at a picture of her father and feel a lot of displeasure, hatred and love for the man.
As she was walking in the funeral service which was in a beautiful garden in the very back of the garden, it was the exact opposite of the cemetery for it flourished with beauty and liveliness, and was trimmed with beautiful flowers such as petunias daffodils and a variety of roses and in the very distant corner there was this pitch black rose in which stuck out but with its distant location no one had noticed, except for Heather.
This rose seemed to have been grown in hell for its stem was withered brown and yet the flower itself didn’t fall. The petals were twisted and deformed and there were only about 13 petals and they each had a taint of red on them. The withered stem had exactly 666 miniature thorns which Heather was shocked when she saw it. It was also quite tall and it’s fragrant smelled of a rotting lamb carcass. This rose had an ominous feeling about it, it left the atmosphere around it filled with discomfort, depression, guilt, envy, and other emotions that made a heart blemish its state of contentment. Heather marveled by this mysterious black rose decided it to pick it from the spot and keep it in her coat.
A microphone had gone on and old man who looked like the Pope with
black lustrous said. ”We are gathered here today to mourn the loss of Lukas
Derek Dormeur.” Everyone there turned to a podium in which the man was talking. “Does anybody have a few words to say?” He asked. Mrs. Dormeur went up to the podium and said, “My husband was a great man who lived life without any regrets. He loved everyone he has ever known and showed us what he could do, what his dreams were, he inspired us with persevering to the end and teaching us great lessons about life and how to reach happiness and to maintain it.” Mrs. Dormeur then just crying after the period, she looked like she lost something precious to her, she lost her love and her soul mate.
Heather felt that all she said about him was true but it was merely a curtain covering the devil that stayed sanctioned behind a form of what seemed to be her caring father. It was all a cover-up he was a man whose life had been driven by killing those chosen by god to have a life of perfection. She could not help feel the same emotions she felt earlier, she was confused on why she felt like this. Heather was an age that would be ready to be released into the world, she didn’t understand, she was feeling a mixture of pain, sorrow, guilt, and detestation, while the body was put in the soil to rest forevermore.
After the service there was some food under a tent of smooth silken fabric. It had pervaded throughout the entire cemetery and the entire area was under a veil of light. Heather in her state of depression and rage could not help but release it. She pushed tables on to the ground smashed glass plates and stomped the food. She ripped off the veil and took a lighter from a man who was smoking outside and burned the entire veil. Finally, Heather had dug up her father grave with her bare hands and burned coffin and his body was burned right there. People panicked as the veil was falling down in flames. Heather just ran, ran as far as she possibly could away from the giant pile of flames in which people were trapped under.
She heard screams and cries for help, but Heather could not but just stare and think of the thought that the demon which was her father was exterminated forever, and the memory of him will be long forgotten. She could not help but laugh a maniacal laugh that plagued the air with death. Heather knew this was arson, genocide and many more crimes so she kept running after that brief pause. She never looked back and she just kept running to a future that was untold.
I'm trying to write a novel, is this Chapter good?
It's alright in premise but in execution you need a little work. Learn to break large portions into smaller paragraphs to avoid the "WALL OF TEXT (tm)" effect and at the very beginning, your description kind of throws Heather in your face too fast.
Now what I've heard in writing is, "Don't tell the reader, SHOW the reader". Don't start it off just describing Heather's looks and life off the bat. Start it off in the middle of a dialogue or monologue, as if describing what you see happening in the beginning of a movie, or maybe having Heather looking back at the past and recounting her tale and ending this narration at the point where she "never looks back and keeps running toward her untold future".
Describe her in bits and pieces scattered between storyline and if anything you don't even have to describe her at all. Sometimes the readers enjoy having a character they can form their own description of. Try reading more published novels and take notes on how their characters are introduced and just how long it takes to form the *Author's* picture in your mind in contrary to how you form your idea of what the character looks like.
Its hard for me to explain but you'll see that the "famous" authors and "legends" don't describe the character head to toe in the opening paragraph and drop little hints as the actions unfold like midway through a stressful dialogue, "Zack gave an exhasperated sigh as he ran his fingers through short, peppery grey locks"... and maybe a little while later in a whole different scene where he's talking to a girl who loves him and the narration goes, "Amanda couldn't stop gazing at the man's amber eyes-- no one but she would ever be so mesmerized and taken by such simple radiance."
Good luck! Writing's a fun art! I hope I helped a bit!
Reply:wow...im stunned,
keep it up and let me know when it turns to a film :)
Reply:It has the potential to be good but you haven't quite pulled it off yet. It's too stilted and awkward, the character interaction is very cold and disjointed. There's a lot to critique here but I'd tend to agree with the answer above me (or at least, it was above me when I started typing).
My first reaction as a reader to seeing this girl who gives to charities and is perfect and everyone wants or loves her, is that I want to watch her fall on her face. It seems too good to be true, and I think the funeral is a nice thing to segway into early on. However, you really would benefit as a writer from slowing down enough to be in the moment with your writing instead of running past. You need to feel every part of what's going on, and if you did that you'd see the use of cliches and abstractions are unappealing. Such as "she couldn't help but feel discomforted." Her dad is dead, of course she's discomforted, but then that doesn't really cover it, does it? She's chocking, she can feel the vomit raising in her neck, burning as an invisible force strangles her, she can hear the thumping of her heart pumping blood faster and faster into her skull etc.
Maybe that's overdoing it but it's just an example. I hope you don't take this harshly, I'm not saying it's bad. In fact, I rather like where it's headed. I just am not the type to say "It's awesome!" and leave it at that. I may say it's awesome, but I'll give you reasons why and some opinions on how to improve. Take it for what you want, I'm not published either, save for the newspaper, so if any of what I've said makes sense then keep it in mind, if not no worries.
Best of luck.
Reply:I think you've got a great idea for a book. Lots of action and suspense. You may want to consider a course in creative writing to help organize your thoughts and brush up on your grammer. I'm thinking of taking one myself. Good luck.
Reply:I think you have a good start and a decent story line, but if you really want to build on it, you will need to fix some of the details and rethink a few ideas.
All in all a great start and I would love to hear the rest and/or help you edit it. It takes a lot of work to write a good story, and I think you are headed in the right direction.
Reply:Well, firstly, I'd say to develop your character more. The flawless angel going to burning a dead body is quite interesting, but perhaps there should be more hints at the beginning, besides just a dream that propels her to do so.
Also, sometimes, looks, dates, and popularity aren't enough to describe an angel. There's a little superficiality in her. If she is "popular", is she biased or unbiased? Will she help the "popular" student, or will she also help the "unpopular" student? Does she turn down the dates that she frequently gets? Or does she accept them? If she accepts them, does she ever fall into conflicts with dating previous boyfriends? Does she have any particular hobbies, anything that fascinates her? Develop her. I'd also suggest to 'suggest' that she's an angel. The way an angel interacts with others is different than, say, how a bitter widow interacts with others. The way she dresses, the way she thinks.
She also seemed rather "whiny" in the beginning. I was a little surprised that she objected to waking up early. Her mom keeping mum for two hours, then popping the statement, might signify that she thinks her daughter isn't strong enough to handle death until she's fully awake. How her father treated her when she was alive seems very good, as she did not seem to have any problems as the angel. This is slightly confusing as she decided to burn the body. She also seems to be on excellent terms with her mother. However, the way she suddenly committs arson implies there are underlying problems beneath her angel exterior. Perhaps hint at them more at the beginning? How she believed her dream to be truth also seemed rather strange.
Reply:While I liked this piece, I felt it was a bit flat for me. I see that you have a generous helping of adjectives there . . . bad move. It is good to be descriptive in your prose, but over doing it will spoil it for the reader. You have a lot of grammar problems within your chapter and with some tightening, this could pass. Oh and one can't be sensitive and a writer, rejection is a mainstay. Get used to it and fast.
Reply:Wonderful! Very good use of adjs. This book is sure to be published, and guess what,if it is,I will be reading it!
Reply:its great!!! i love the suspension. tell me when theres more!
Reply:OMFG your like amazing that was soo good. I want more. Post the next chapter up when your donee.
Reply:add more emotion towards the death of the father...take it slower..other than that great!
Reply:Hmm, to start off for some technicalities, though they're mostly typos. If you checked them over, I'm sure you'd find them. But they just bothered me a tiny bit, so I put them here. You are welcome to skip this part and auto-correct it if you'd like!
-Keep the story in past tense, since that seems to be the frame in most of your sentences: "She wasn’t a morning person at all; she referred to mornings as a guillotine that CUT off sleep and relaxation."
-Missing commas in many places (I've added them in): “Mom, you ready to drive me to school?” (there's a pause between "Mom" and "you ready," unless she said it all in one breath) / She said, “Your father’s funeral.” / With frail and sorrowful hearts, they got in the car after on a stormy morning in April. / He continued, “I was thinking of killing you at the peak of your life.
-Missing grammar: "Why today is Friday right?" --%26gt; "Why? Today is Friday, right?" / Her mom had taken acting classes, and she had seen her act she was quite exceptional. --%26gt; Her mom had taken acting classes, and she had seen her act. She was quite exceptional. / “Okay mom nice trick but I don’t believe you.” She said with a skeptical tone. --%26gt; “Okay mom, nice trick, but I don’t believe you," she said with a skeptical tone. / “It’s true Heather, its true.” She said still sobbing. --%26gt; “It’s true Heather, its true,” she said, still sobbing. / He wore a robe of fine white silk and gold, his face was hidden behind a veil. --%26gt; He wore a robe of fine white silk and gold; his face was hidden behind a veil. (comma changed into a semicolon, which links sentences together) / “Okay then lets go get ready in the bathroom” --%26gt; “Okay then lets go get ready in the bathroom.” Periods and question marks finish off every sentence, regardless if it's dialogue or not. Periods and question marks are always inside the quotation marks too.
-Missing grammar cont'd: This rose seemed to have been grown in hell for its stem was withered brown and yet the flower itself didn’t fall. --%26gt; This rose seemed to have been grown in hell, for its stem was withered brown and yet, the flower itself didn’t fall. / The petals were twisted and deformed and there were only about 13 petals and they each had a taint of red on them. --%26gt; The petals were twisted and deformed and there were only about THIRTEEN petals and they each had a taint of red on them. (Unless the number is more than 20, you need to put the figure in words and not in digits. / It was also quite tall and it’s fragrant smelled of a rotting lamb carcass. --%26gt; It was also quite tall and ITS fragrant smelled of a rotting lamb carcass. / A microphone had gone on and old man who looked like the Pope with black lustrous said. --%26gt; A microphone had gone on and old man who looked like the Pope with black lustrous HAIR said, "........"
-Missing letters: "...I could see it I our eyes the day you were born.” --%26gt; "...I could see it IN YOUR eyes the day you were born.” / The cells just shattered into darkness. --%26gt; The CELL just shattered into darkness. (assuming this is a jail cell?) / "Oh no never can you!" --%26gt; "Oh no! You never can!"
Heather woke up with her eyes wide open and a face that looked bleak and pale. --%26gt; I think you have a sentence fragment here. "And" often links sentences together. So, Heather woke up with her eyes wide open, AND a face that looked bleak and pale.....?
Moving on. We are first introduced to Heather when you describe her. Maybe you want to keep this description in your character's personality? It seems that a novel might want to start off with a hook or a brilliant, vivid description of a typical day in the angel's life. She appears as a Mary Sue, which may be slightly irritating to some readers.
When Heather first hears of her father's death, you could make it a bit more apparent that she feels a foreboding in her heart. Pain, gloom, etc. certainly can be felt at a funeral. You could also extend Heather's reaction. She does experience absolute shock, but does she experience hysteria? Hallucinations? Or does she simply begin to grieve, moving on past the initial blow? Does she feel overwhelmed? Does she want to lash out at her mother? Does her mother console her? However, you also say that she mourns. Absolute shock + mourning are sometimes days apart. ^^;;
I think God is capitalized? For example, "Some religions have their beliefs in more than one god, but Christians are monotheistic and only believe in God."
"Heather was thought about the dream she had of her father, she was very confused and a stormy cloud of melancholy, hatred, and guilt came over her." This sentence is very much like this one: "Heather’s heart fell, it seemed like it wasn’t a heart, just an empty black hole with nothing but pain, fear, and gloom trapped inside." It simply lists what she feels. It seems these are pretty defined, solid, and conclusive feelings, having arrived to the conlusion that she hates her father. Could you perhaps expand on this?
How does she count 666 thorns, by the way? I'm curious; I understand the connection between the devil date, though.
Finally, Heather had dug up her father grave with her bare hands and burned coffin and his body was burned right there.
How does she burn him? Does she whip out a match and set him on fire? I wonder if the attendants of the funeral are shocked as well, if she has the strength to dig out a coffin. That would make a very dramatic, tragic scene if there were some wild or maniac sense/feelings described.
Also, did she suspect that he was the devil in any way, or was he a great actor?
Overall, it's a good plotline and interesting prelude. I think a major thing you're missing is details, though not of Heather herself. Sorry for all the crits, as they seemed to be rough spots in an otherwise decent chapter. The use of adjectives and verbs is rather superior and adds a very nice touch. Just a few thoughts of mine; good luck with your novel! I'm awaiting her future!
Reply:wow i say it's beautiful keep writing please!

When Heather first hears of her father's death, you could make it a bit more apparent that she feels a foreboding in her heart. Pain, gloom, etc. certainly can be felt at a funeral. You could also extend Heather's reaction. She does experience absolute shock, but does she experience hysteria? Hallucinations? Or does she simply begin to grieve, moving on past the initial blow? Does she feel overwhelmed? Does she want to lash out at her mother? Does her mother console her? However, you also say that she mourns. Absolute shock + mourning are sometimes days apart. ^^;;

How to get her back after Exam? Please help!?
I have known her for more than 8 months. But since 2 months ago, she felt being pushed, because we really got well at some occasions, anyway she was shy, young (18), and keen on her study. Thus, i decided not to push her but shows my maturity, care (i send her flowers wishing her good luck in exams, but did not state my name)and have been quiet at all for 2 months, next week is the end of our exam period. How should I win her back, she must be wondering how come we have not talking for so long. She is always in my heart eventhough we are not talking. Last night, she was late for dinner, but I saved her a meal and passed it to her best friend, somebody told me she was very happy about that, but so far i have not seen her yet. Please give me some ideas. Cheers

See if she will sit next to you in the dining hall, if your school allows it. If so, try for a walk in the park on Sunday afternoon.

Angels Accents?
I was thinking of using them for my wedding flowers so that I could keep them forever as a flower arrangement afterwards. I got an estimate email in which it stated that they were going to contact me yesterday. I never received the call. I am hesitant to use them yet I absolutely love the work that they do. Not a bridezilla, I just do not want to put a 200 deposit down on a person that cannot contact me.
Any experience with them out there?
Angels Accents?
Never even heard of them, but if they can't even contact you to secure your business then they don't deserve you business. This is an indicator of what their service would be like in the future, do you want to take the risk?

Wedding Background??/ Ideas!!!?
We are having a destination wedding in Florida on the beach. We are planning it from three states away. However, I am totally stumped on ahwt sort of scene to have on the beach. I have seen flower arches and things, but they look sort of out of place on the middle of the beach. I was thinking maybe some sort of large cross or something, or flowers?? I am totally stumped on what to set-up! Any ideas on how I could go about doing this of what would look nice on the beach for us to stnad in front of for our ceremony. THANKS!
Wedding Background??/ Ideas!!!?
I would think if you're going through all the trouble to have your wedding on a beach for the scenery, then use the beach as your background. Sometimes you can have too much decoration.
Reply:After doing a destination wedding, my only suggestion to you is hire a wedding planner - in the venues area. She'll be your best friend during the planning.
She'll not only know what you can and can't do in certian areas of the beach, but she'll be able to arrange for all the permits, and everything you'll need to get your wedding off with out a hitch.
Don't worry, you'll still have to do some decision making, but she'll do most of the stressful things that would turn most women into Bridezilla!
My wedding went off with no problems, I wasn't a Bridezilla either. We were both so relaxed and calm, that we went hiking all day before the wedding.
Good luck, and Congratulations!
Reply:One nice thing about the beach is that the scenery has already been planned out by good old Mother Nature! I mean, you'll be getting married with the Atlantic Ocean as your backdrop- do you really need any other decorations? If anything I think an arch or cross or whatever would detract from the ocean which is-after you, of course- the star of the wedding. Congrats, and good luck!
P.S. Anything you put there (flowers, etc.) will end up blowing away, anyway- that's the ocean breeze for you.
Reply:a cross??thats werid on a beach....i would do a form of a covering over the officiant like in the movie in her shoes at the wedding in the end where the bridal party (4 ppl) holds what looks like tiki torches without the torch with a thin piece of white fabric over the couple
Reply:I always thought that if we had a beach/destination wedding, I would find a sand sculptor and have them create something in the sand; I never had anything specific in mind, I just thought it would be beautiful in pictures!
Reply:I like the flower arches or shepards hooks with flower baskets or ribbons hanging from them. You are on the beach, the scenery will be beautiful. You just need a little something to "mark" the spot.
Reply:You could always use tiki torches.
Another option is to have the arch but not put flowers on it. You could put toole, seashells, or some greenry on it.
Reply:A heart made out of shells on the sand..... you could stand inside the heart??? or something along those lines
Reply:you can have the deck chairs lined up for the guests to sit
the flower girl has a little sand bucket instead of a basket
i think the flower arch would look lovely.
you could have a long flowy dress with flowers in your hair that match the arch.
i don't like the sand sculpture idea much.
barbecue on the beach
lantern lights with candles in them

Why do environmentalists cause more harm than good?
Last week, CNN delayed for a few hours the scheduled Tuesday night broadcast debut of its much-hyped documentary series "Planet in Peril" due to live coverage of the tragic wildfires that have displaced more than 500,000 people in Southern California. But that didn't keep CNN "golden boy" reporter Anderson Cooper from using the tragedy to tout the program he starred in as much as he could.
Cooper constantly claimed during the week that the fires provided further confirmation of the documentary's prediction of an eco-catastrophe. Cooper said that higher temperature due to global warming may have been a factor. It was a "timely documentary," Cooper said last Tuesday on CNN's "Larry King Live", because "California certainly seems to be in peril."
But ironically, much of the reason California is in peril is due not to climate change, but to the very environmental policies championed by Cooper's documentary and our new Nobel laureate, Al Gore. While, in its statement praising Gore, the Nobel Committee said that global warming may "threaten the living conditions of much of mankind," the current wildfires show that the more immediate threat to man comes from the champions of the gnatcatcher, kangaroo rat, and the Delhi Sands Flower-Loving fly.
Environmental mandates have made fire safety for humans take a back seat to the well-being of the aforementioned California creatures, as well as that of every bug and rat lucky enough to be listed as an "endangered species" under federal and state law. For over a decade, environmentalists have hamstrung Californians in their efforts to clear the dry brush that is providing the fuel for this massive fire. If any of these endangered or even "threatened" species are found in shrubs or bushes on public or private property, it becomes very difficult to give this vegetation even the slightest haircut. This is true even if city codes require firebreaks to be built.
An example of the legal strait jacket that homewoners faced in the areas hit by the fires is the "brush management guide" on the City of San Diego web site. The confusing instructions state that vegetation within 100 feet of homes in canyon areas "must be thinned and pruned regularly." But then, the same sentence goes on to state that this must be achieved "without harming native plants, soil or habitats."
Then in fine print at the bottom of the page, the real kicker comes in:
"Brush management is not allowed in coastal sage scrub during the California gnatcatcher nesting season, from March 1st through August 15th. This small bird only lives in coastal sage scrub and is listed as a threatened species by the federal government. Any harm to this bird could result in fines and penalties."
Coastal sage scrub is a low plant ubiquitous near coastal California that grows like a weed under almost any condition. And since gnatcatcher nesting season lasts almost six months, there could be much buildup of sage scrub that becomes hard for homeowners to control. Especially since the maintenance rules severely restrict the use of mechanical brush-clearing devices even when gnat nesting season is over.
The tragedy is that this shows that not much has changed even after previous warnings from experts that environmental rules were on a collision course with fire safety in California and many other places, because they prevented the removal of "excess fuel" for fires from dense stands of trees and vegetation. Southern California homes were lost in 1993 after the federal Fish and Wildlife Service told homeowners that mechanical clearing of brush would likely violate the Endangered Species Act. The reason: it could alter the habitat of a newly-listed endangered species called the Stephens kangaroo rat.
Some exemptions were made, and clarifications were issued, but landowners still face the lingering risk that the simple act of building a firebreak can send them down the river if an endangered species is anywhere near their property. California's Blue Ribbon Fire Commission, which had been created after wildfires in 2003 by then-Governor Gray Davis and whose members included Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., as well as state legislators of both parties, concluded that "habitat preservation and environmental protection have often conflicted with sound fire safe planning."
But did this bipartisan finding or any of the documented harms to fire safety from environmental rules make it into CNN's exploration of possible causes of the current fires? Not a gnatcatcher's chance. Instead, climate "expert" Cooper told viewers Wednesday night that the wildfires were "symptoms of a planet in peril. Fire, drought, deforestation; it's all connected."
Yet the data show that temperature for areas hit by the fire was well within average ranges, and came nowhere near the record highs. On Monday the 23rd, for instance the high temperature in Escondido was 84 degrees, and the high in Santa Ana was 87 degrees. According to temperature statistics from the National Weather Service, the mean high in both cities for that date is 79 degrees. What's more, the record high for that date is 102 degrees in Escondido (in 1929) and 103 degrees in Santa Ana (in 1965). So tell us again, Anderson, how global warming is to blame, when the weather where the fires struck was not nearly as hot as it was more than 40 years ago and almost 80 years ago!
What about those harsh Santa Ana winds? Well, they are pretty strong. Here's one writer's description: "It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch."
Woooo! What a great description of the winds last week. Except that this passage wasn't written last week, last month, or last year. It was written by detective fiction master Raymond Chandler to describe the Santa Ana winds of about 70 years ago. It's in the opening paragraph of his famous short story "Red Wind," first published in 1938. So rough winds are nothing new under the California sun!
What's really changing the "climate" in Southern California is that there is more fuel for fires, since much less of the brush, as well as disease-infested trees, can be cleared, thanks to environmental mandates.
The problem is even worse on land owned by the federal and state governments. To satisfy the feds, San Diego has placed more than 170,000 acres off limit to development for the exclusive purpose, in the city's words, of "protect[ing] habitat for over 1,000 native and non-native plant species and more than 380 species of fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals." Hugh Hewitt, the California radio talk show host and author who is also a real estate attorney, has noted in the Weekly Standard:
"The land that has passed into ‘conserved' status is at even greater risk of fire than private land that is home to a protected species because absolutely no one cares for its fire management policy. The scrum of planners, consultants and G-11s that put together these plans should be monitoring these areas closely. Instead, they regulate and move on to savage the property rights of the next region."
And enviro groups also get more and more land locked up by conveniently finding more species to petition the government to protect. In California, as in other places, it's often a case of creative subdividing of essentially the same species. First it was the Stephens kangaroo rat whose designation as endangered put much brush clearance off limits. Then, in 1998, the San Bernardino kangaroo rat got listed. Also under federal protection is the Fresno kangaroo rat. And so on and so on.
Across the country, fires have become more destructive as trees and shrubs gain "protected" status preventing them form being cleared. As Bill Croke noted last week in American Thinker, In the last two decades annual timber production on the national forests in the West has decreased from roughly 12 billion board feet to less than 3 billion today. This has resulted in brush-choked forests with large "fuel loads."
The ironic thing is that all this "protection" at the expense of humans doesn't necessarily work out for the gnatcatchers -- not to mention more majestic creatures -- anyway. According to the Associated Press, the fires struck close to the San Diego Wild Animal Park, threatening condors, a cheetah, and many other animals. The Blue Ribbon Fire Commission found that the 2003 wildfires resulted in "the loss of valuable watershed, wildlife, and critical environmental habitats."
Of course, saving species never really was the objective of many enviros. It's just a subterfuge for their main interest of controlling the human species.
Endangered Species Act abuses, including those that prevented fire breaks in Southern California, were an issue that helped get the GOP in power in 1994. But with some exceptions like former Rep. Richard Pombo of California, Republicans began to abandon this issue, lest they be branded as anti-green. It's time for the GOP, as well as truly moderate Democrats, to befriend again the threatened species known as the beleaguered property owner.
And if the Nobel Committee really wanted to give an award to folks preventing a hazard threatening mankind, they should rescind Al Gore's prize and hand it to the brave California firefighters whose jobs have been made so much harder by the nonsensical practices of the environmental movement.
Why do environmentalists cause more harm than good?
I agree that yours is a long question. I also agree that environmentalist are misguided. It is one thing to save the whale from harpooning, or baby seals from getting smacked with baseball bats, it is quite another to think that by non forestation and good forestry planing we can not harvest and control our forest and still have a habitat for wild species. The spotted owl, save their nest, what happens when a forest fire burns it down. The scrub you speak of, now those poor birds no longer have a nesting habitat, my guess is that come the nesting season, they will find one suitable. This is typical radical behavior, not give a solution that is in the best interest of all concern. I say your on the right track. The solution is protect the habitat from fires. The species will thrive, or maybe not, isn't that what Darwin's whole theory is about, survival of the fittest? If they don't adapt, then surely they will be extinct in the future, not because of man, but because they failed to evolve.

Human beings are in danger because of the dwindling resources on earth, that is caused by greed, overpopulation, stupidity, and the short-sightedness of our leaders. I give Anderson Cooper credit for making it clear that overpopulation is one of the biggest threats to our environment. Many environmentalists refuse to mention the overwhelmingly negative impact that human overpopulation has on our environment.

A lot of of it is fanaticism. Sometimes people let themselves get to the point where they become so fixated and obsessed about achieving a goal, that they only ask themselves if the goal COULD be achieved rather than if it SHOULD be achieved. Often times a fanatic doesn't care HOW it gets achieved either, and how much damage it does on the way as long as the goal is achieved.
Example: Nature First is a very radical group that is known to "spike" trees in the upper northwest states of Washington and Oregon. This means that they drive large iron or steel spikes into trees that lumberjacks will eventually harvest. Lumberjacks will cut down the trees, and the trees will be sent to a factory where they are usually sent through a large saw unit. The saw unit hits the spike, and the blade shatters and causes injury to any person within a certain vicinity of the machine.
I watched one documentary in particular where one man had his face mangled and lost some eyesight when the saw machine hit a spiked tree, and the blade broke and mutilated his face.
Point of the story: Nature First succeeded in their goal: to stifle the lumber industry (at least temporarily), and they had their narrow tunnel vision (preserving trees), but the "HOW" was reckless and outrageous (sabotage the lumber and risk killing or seriously injuring innocent people).
Reply:I doubt anybody read all that.

Cool Birthday Gift through the mail???
I'm going to be out of state for my friend's birthday. I want to send her something similiar to flowers or a gift basket, but with a little more personality? Are there any great stores/bakeries/companies that ship online that you LOVE?
Any and ALL suggestions are appreciated!!!
Cool Birthday Gift through the mail???
Yes, I have something that's PERFECT for you! (I do it all the time). If you go to www.Signaturedays.com you can search from thousands of different gift "experiences" like cooking classes, hot air balloon rides, spa services, even a personal chef! They have a huge price range so you can find something that works (or just do an open gift card) and once you buy it, the card will be shipped in an elegant box (with a personalized message on the inside) right to her front door. Love is the seed that is planted in your inner garden?
Love, Like the seed of a beautiful rose
when taken care of and watered with plenty of sun. It will grow, and grow. flowering its bud of peddles to open up and shine its beauty for all to see,
but if the seed is forgotten and it is not given that special care. it will not grow or it will wither away into nothingness.
laying dorment until that special person comes our way to bring the withering rose out of its dorment state and then again its beauty will awake.
The rose does not die, for the seed of its flower is just waiting for love to bring it life.
So if you have a rose in your life.
give it water and give it care, make sure that it is feeling the happiness of the warmth of your sun,
and let it flower into the beautiful flowering rose it was meant to become.
In the garden of love.
Love is the seed that is planted in your inner garden?
Thank you. You have put a smile on my face. What a nice sentiment!!!

Should I Send Flowers For My Ex-Fiance's Birthday???
My Ex-Fiance broke up with me in June after dating for over 4 years. She stated that she needed to find herself and is vey depressed at the present, and that a relationship is too much to handle at the moment. We tried to stay friends during the summer but she got EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE. We haven't spoken since September, I miss her more than anything everyday, and love her so much. Next week is her 27th birthday, should I send flowers or just forget about it?
Should I Send Flowers For My Ex-Fiance's Birthday???
no
Reply:I say send her flowers but with a hand written note just saying happy birthday. Keep it simple.
Sorry to hear what happened. Hope you feel better.
But one word of advice. Don't expect much back. Expect nothing back from her. It might be hard for her to get the flowers from you and she wouldn't know what to do.
Reply:No.
She wants you to leave her alone.
Respect that.
Reply:YES! But don't send a mooshy card. Just say words that a friend would say.
Reply:To tell you the truth I am torn between yes and no. I would say No just leave her be. But then again maybe she would like to know that you are thinking of her.
Reply:I think you should, just to let her know that you care, and are thinking about her...but like everyone else said, keep it simple.
Reply:Send her flowers....... cause she will sence you are still thinking about her!!!! Good Luck
Reply:no move on

How should I handle my daughter's reaction?
My daughter turns 15 on May 5th. I sent her a Tommy Hilfiger perfume set, necklace from Amazon. I also made a picture collage for her on Kodak Easyshare Gallery and had it sent to her.
On the day before her birthday, I am having a vase with purple flowers and a teddy bear hugging them (Big Hug Bouquet) from ftd.com delivered to her.
She lives with her Dad in another state. I will be sending her a card also.
What should I do if she gets upset about the stuff that I sent? I have not talked to her in a few weeks. She had sent e-mail saying that she did not want anything for her birthday.
I am hoping that she likes everything.
Maybe I should just not worry about it and just feel that I sent what I thought she would like....
How should I handle my daughter's reaction?
She will like it! I have a 15 year old daughter also and I know they can difficult to buy a gift for, but I think you did a good job of mixing things that she will like along with personalized items that show her how much you love her. Good job!
Reply:any gift should be accepted graciously--or she will be rude--not you. Report It
Reply:i think you should of asked around and see what 15 year olds, want or like at that age!
Reply:my mom's the same. every gift, she thinks i'd want to return it...she'll love it, don't worry.
