Lotus posture?

How do people do that posture(meditating pose)?

I know some people that can but they're really flexable.

How do you do it?

here's some pictures of people in it.

Does it really make you feel like a flower?

Is it true that the reason for it is so during a trance state you don't fall over?

(ex: I started to have a vision how so stop wars and bring world peace but i fell over during it because I wasn't in a lotus posture so it stoped)

Lotus posture?
Before enlightenment, chop wood

After enlightenment, chop wood

I know this will help

Peace in the heart
Reply:I can just about manage it (my Mum got us to do / try it as kids - we're a lot more plastic / flexible then, and it can set one up for / last a lifetime).

Just as stable (in fact I find it more so) is the half lotus - viiraasana ('the hero's posture').

It's the one the Buddha is said to've used.

I still use it when meditating.
Reply:They can do it because they free their minds of everything else...it is a big help in aiding meditation. I unfortunately can only do it for a short period of time but hopefully I will continue to get better at it.
Reply:Yes, it makes you feel like a flower. Try not to laugh when the tickling of bee's feet starts--you might get stung.
Reply:The full Lotus is difficult and for some (myself included) not advisable, though it does help with your posture and keeping the rest of you easily in place. I prefer the half lotus and like Goodfella said it does agree with many people, but when meditating posture doesn't really matter and you can if disciplined enough meditate any time in any position, though it takes a lot of concentration which is why the lotus and half lotus help as they minimize the effort required to stay in one position allowing you to meditate with ease.
Reply:It takes practice, don't pay much attention to visions, just be. Being as it is is enlightenment, nothing needs to be accomplished.
Reply:it takes a long time to be able to sit like that comfortably for a long period of time.

it doesn't make me feel like a flower. it makes me feel like a human. it keeps your back straight so it's better for breathing.

it's not to keep you from falling over.

the reason for it is so that when you meditate, your body doesn't get in the way by giving you aches and pains and itches. you sit in that, or any, position for a long time, so that you don't get fidgety when you put your attention toward your mind.
Reply:My knees cannot handle it. Although when I did manage to get into that posture a couple of times, it was quite stable, and did help meditation.
