i am considering gettign a rose tattoo on my hip. off to the side or my navel near the groin area i suppose.. the rose is my birth flower (june) i know what the colors mean(of different roses).. i would like a red one(romance and my gmas fav. color rose but i have really fair skin =[ so i dont think it would look that great. white skin and a red rose.. ehhh....



what you you think abtou a light yellow/white one??? or a white with yellow highlights? i want it to look as realistic as possible.. i live in the s.f. bay area and im willing to travel anywhere in the state



do you know any artist out there who do good floral tattoos?





do you think a yellow/white rose would look nice (i know most artists dont do whit ink tattoos though and that they can yellow over time or fade..)



what other colors would you suggest a rose to be for someone who has fair skin.





and please dont mention anything about pregnancy and how it will stretch.. i dont want any children!

i guess i get what you mean about not wanting it to be too bold. while personally i think you should take advantage of having fair skin (i'm latino and have naturally tanned skin and would looooove to get really bright colours) it is your decision. i guess your saying it's like when fair skinned people wear bright red lipstick, sometimes it just doesn't look right. anyway, it wouldn't have to be solid bright bright red. as someone else suggested, it could be a deeper darker red, like burgundy. plus, if you want it to look realistic, they would add a lot of grey and black shading to it which would really tone down the appearance and make it look real all at the same time. you could get pink as well if you're really set on not having it red. and just remember, tattoo inks are not crayola crayons, the artist can mix the colour to perfectly compliment your skin. tattoo inks can be mixed, and even if you don't mix the ink, they come in such a large array of different tones, that if you want pink, you'd have more than just one pink to choose from. personally, i never do roses one colour. i like to blend and use different tones and shading, i think it looks best. a lot of yellows don't stay well, but like i said before, there are so many different shades. there are yellow inks that stay better then others, and you mentioned how you don't mind getting it touched up periodically, but like most people said, i wouldn't recommend yellow anyway. you could have yellow highlights on it, that might look nice, but i wouldn't go for a solid yellow rose. same with white, white is good for a highlight. now, just keep in mind, if you get pregnant....no i'm joking, hehe. good luck with making your decision, just remember to research your artist as much as you're thinking about what colour to get this tattoo.

Reply:Go to the Belmont Tattoo Parlor in Belmont CA. They do beautiful work. I had a yellow rose done there and it came out wonderful. Get the yellow/white. Phil Simms did mine but I don't know if he's there anymore.
Reply:I love the idea of the red rose. Tell the tattoo artist that you are worried about the red standing out too much. He may have a trick of toning it down a bit. Like maybe shading a bit etc



Good luck and keep standing up for the design that you choose. Don't let anyone tell you what is good or not, your body...your choice.

Reply:i think thats a super idea i have a heart in that exact same spot! its so nice go for a nice yellow but u might hav to get it touchd up quite a few times cuz it will fade quicker bing yellow so how about a llight pink?

Reply:Go to the Lyle Tuttle tatto studio.....it's near the warf around china town in that area. I was all over the place so I can't remember. Look up Lyle Tuttle and see why. Or try Anubus Wampus (warpus?) over in Haight Ashbury. That's where I got my arm butterfly done when i was in San Fran on a trip.



I have fair skin and I love the bright pretty colors. I have a couple of flowers down in a pretty red or deep pink and they look nice....but if you aren't into bright maybe a light lavender?
Reply:Actually, I think red would be the best color option. I think it would be very striking and dramatic against fair skin.



White and/or yellow will only make that part of your skin look like you have jaundice. Even on pale skin, it won't show up well, so you'll end up with just the outline, essentially.



Perhaps you could meet in the middle and do an orange one.
Reply:I don't know how good they are with tattoos, but when I was on vacation in SF, I stopped in at a place in Haight-Ashbury called Soul Patch. The body jewelry was nice and it seemed like a clean place. Worth looking into the place, anyway.



Personally, I wouldn't get a rose (or a butterfly) because I think they are way overdone. A tattoo should be something as unique as you are. Mine is a tribal design and while a lot of people have tribal tattoos, the symbols in mine were all very carefully selected, arranged and rearranged by me over an 18 month period of time. I picked symbols that define who I am and what's important to me. I guess what I'm saying is that if you really, really, really want the rose, do something to make the tattoo not appear generic.

Reply:I think white is used more as an accent color. Yellow with white accents wouuld be beautiful. a pale pink with both those accents would be great to. Just remember if exposed to the suns rays or a tanning bed to cover it with an SPF - a chapstick with an spf works great because you still tan all around the tatt. Your tattoo artist will be able to tell you what colors look best etc.. depending on how your skin takes the color I am sure yellow with white would look great.. I have yellow on one of my tatts actually two - and it has not faded at all..
Reply:Don't go with white. It won't stand out and depending on the colors used to make it look white, it could brown or yellow over time.



I think you should go with the red. It was your initial choice and your grandma's favorite. On pale skin, if done right, it will pop out and look amazing, I swear. But I think a pink or lavender rose with dark pink or purple tips on the petals would look good as well. Good luck!

Reply:I have pondered this question and I think you need not only red but a lavendar/purple color also. I agree that yellow is not a good choice as it will blend into your skin to easily and become faded. It should look like a deep red at the base of the pedal then gradually turn purple on the pedal edge.



I'm assuming you want people to see it. If you don't, stick with yellow.
Reply:find an artist who has flowers in his portfolio. check everywhere, this is permanent. the red will look great on fair skin and if you find a really good artist it will be more than just red on the flower, layers of color and such. look around. a tattoo is only as good as your research and your artist.
Reply:in my opinion bolder colors look the best. and fair skin is the best for having the boldest color but you don't have to have a bright engine red you could get a more maroon or blood red. i definitely say red is the way to go. white or yellow wouldn't be "enough" i say go for red!
Reply:I think you should go with the red, because thats the one you want most because it has most meaning to you. There are different shades of red you know. I think on your skin tone, if done right it would look nice on you, maybe you couls put a different color outline on it or something.....go with your first instinct on your tattoos, when it comes to a tattoo don't improvise, and when you talk to your tattoo artist, he/she will be more than happy to go over different shades of red with you.
