How did the concept of a wedding come into being?

If you look in History like biblically couples were pronounced married there is no mention of a bridesmaids flowers limos maid of honors, yes there were wedding feasts, but when did the United States history did the fancy weddings come into being or place many people in our grand parents and great grand parents time did not have elaborate weddings like they do today many just went before a judge and got married like my grandpa and grandma. Do you think all this formalness and fanciness is needed for a wedding that only lasts one day?

I think some of these people who spend tens of thousands of dollars on weddings are just plain nuts. I don't think all the fanciness of some wedding are necessary. We had a perfectly beautiful, elegent wedding with a sit down dinner reception for $5000.00. Pretty inexpensive in todays world of $20,000.00 plus weddings!

Reply:your right the wedding day itself is only one day and a special one at that, and no you don't need all the huppla that comes in today's weddings, its done mostly for the family and guests, you celebrate the best time in the world aside from your salvation and share it with everyone else, of course some get ridiculously expensive and loose the whole concept of the whole purpose of having the wedding. and friends and family
